If you didn't like it, keep your comments to yourself. For those that care, the motor (70 hp CES Yamaha) is one of only 2/3 in the country, and testing at the moment has seen 110 km/h with an 18p cleaver. When the 24p prop is put on we're hoping to see over 12o km/h.Lots of fun for something that has <150kg total weight.

Still working on height off the deck and trim. A guy in the states custom makes a hybrid 70 and pulls 7500 rpm with 20p cleaver @ 123 km/h! Do ya run it on ulp or a avgas high octane fuel? Obvioulsy weight reduction, revs & the " of prop is allowing speed like this from a reasonably small outboard but how do you go putting it into a corner with having to run the motor so high. Does it cavitate or blow out? How do yas expect to run a 24' prop are you going to modify the gear ratios some how??? koppers Member 119 Member For: 18y 2m 12d Posted 02/02/09 12:34 PM Author Share Posted 02/02/09 12:34 PM The 70 ces short shaft is a factory made race-spec motor out of South Africa for races such as the Trans Agulhas. I'd hazard a guess at saying that there would be no more than 50 originals or so floating around world-wide. It's a pretty serious bit of kit, be fair to say it'd have 50% again more power than your normal standard leg 70 Yamaha. It spins the 18p without a worry in the world, no bog into corners, the torque of the thing in comparison to the 50 hp motors can't be compared. The motor was bought off an ex racer from SA who had it on a rib running a a reduced custom gear-set. WHich comes in handy as you've noted when needed to spin such a big prop.Have already had the 24p on the 50 (race sealed) and spun that to 6200 @ ~95 from memory.Lots of fun! I figured it had to be an import as I couldnt remember there being a factory optioned animal like this. Would be fun to look inside to see what they have done. We've stuffed around with stuff abit bigger way back, the logistics of making even a factory race spec motor do what it did & still see enough reliability to finish multiple races was no mean feat. Its fun while it last but it can hurt the pocket. with them that highly strung theres always gonna be problems along the way. I spose no different to our car in that respect.
