I feel stuck between a rock and a hard place. The Jap companies that make rear wheelo drive cars want to charge $100k or more for their gear. What's their attitude? The peasants can buy front wheel drives? Hats off to both Ford and Expensive Daewoo for continuing with AFFORDABLE rear wheel drives. I just wish the Falcon and Late model camira were lighter and smaller. Some may need the room but I prefer BMW 3 Series size. Watch Expensive Daewoo stuff up the next Torana by making it FWD??I digress - back to my point. How well put together are the new FG's? It sounds like Ford has introduced some worthwhile improvements such as fitting the Typhoon bottom end - any other worthwhile fixes? * Apart from the Typhoon bottom end - any other worthwhile improvements in the FG XR6T? * What BA / BF problems are likely to exist in the FG?* What things have FG owners been taking back to Ford for repairs?* How well do Ford dealers look after customers with problems?* How well does Ford look after customers who are not happy with dealership action (or lack of it)?PAH

Not a single thing has gone wrong with my car.The only grip, if you could call it that, was a squeak from the drivers side door at ear level. Some electrical tape around the door catch until I see a dealer next, is all that was required to get rid of the noise.Build quality. Excellent.Ride quality. Excellent. So far I can't fault it.

rprodrive Member 21 Member For: 16y 8m 14d Posted 30/01/09 10:58 PM Share Posted 30/01/09 10:58 PM (edited) I had the FG XR6 turbo for 10,000kms and the quality is not even close to Japanese car standards. Totally different ballpark. You need to make a trade off going for a FG in terms of reliability and quality compared to the Japanese. But the performance is fantastic and that was good enough for me to put up with the repeated trips to the dealer. If you want one - I would only own it during the warranty period and then sell it. Problems I had in a short 6 month period: * returned to dealer 3 times for electronic throttle fault. Car would go in to limp mode without warning. Each time dealer said they had fixed the problem. Now resolved. * intermittent problem with the headlights - dash would show "headlight fault" from time to time. Not resolved. * rear left brake light would stop working on an intermittent basis. It was not the globe. Dealer could not fix the problem and each time told me there was nothing wrong and lights were working fine. Yeah right- other drivers on the road continued to tell me my brake lights were not working! Not resolved by Ford. * trip computer regarding estimated range was always wrong by approx 200kms. Dealer said they fixed it. Problem persisted. * accessory/drive belts started wearing prematurely (lots of rubber shearing under the engine bay). Not raised with dealer as I returned the car early to my employer (operating lease). Maybe not a problem but something didn't look right with the drive belt. Maybe these are relatively minor problems but it sure is a pain when you are visiting the dealer for warranty issues on a regular basis. If you want reliability don't buy the FG. You are buying this car for bang for buck. Edited 30/01/09 11:04 PM by rprodrive

bunna Donating Members 813 Member For: 18y 4m 29d Posted 30/01/09 11:26 PM Share Posted 30/01/09 11:26 PM Depends on the build date - naturally the newer the car the more issues will have been caught and resolved before the cars are shipped, either by locating faults on line or by acting on customer feedback to find them
