even if SCT do offer an "upgrade price" or arrangment to swap to xcal3... which I strongly doubt, What about our custom tunes that are currently already on the xcal1 box??

I dont live near my tuner, and I dont want to have to travel 7 hours just to get a 5 minute upload of tunes changed over.

All they need to do is reactivate everything and chase after the shop that was reusing the flash boxes. End of story.

hopefully its just a big scare tactic. see what happens over the next couple of weeks. I cant see how SCT would get away with doing this. they would lose a massive amount of business. maybe we need to send em a link to this thread haha

Cheers for the explanation ratter.

I think I may be driving down to frankston sometime soon. Ill give you a call sometime in the coming weeks.

Ill get my Xcal1 tuned before its canned, then ill wait it out until an alternative product is made mainstream buy the tuners. Ill never buy an SCT product again.

I cant understand why people would have bought an x cal 1 within the last 12 - 18 months. The price difference between a new 1 and 2 is minimal. Who buys new VHS players these days when a dvd player is the same price.

In saying that my only thought to buy a 1 recently is if it was 2nd hand, and cheap but not worth the problems that comes with buying cheap products.

But if Sony sold you a VHS today, they would still support it for the life of that product.

Its not when they bought it or how much they spent on it, its the principal of it. The fact that SCT didn't tell their distributors let alone the end users is tantamount to how much they didn't think about the reult of their actions

comparing the xcal 1 to a VHS is not the same thing, until yesterday. it is more like buying a $50 DVD player from kmart as apposed to going to JB hifi and buying a $150 or $250 DVD player with more features.

All the boxes do the same thing. They allow a tune to uploaded to the car, that is it.. there entire basic function. Xcal 2 and 3 have added functions that for 99% of us serve no purpose, all we want is a tune in our car, that's the $50 dvd player

SCT are trying to use the point that all Xcal 1's on the market were purchased from them in 2005, so therefore are "old and used" when the reality is that the market was flooded with "6000-7000" boxes, and till now that has been sufficient for the aus market so they have not made anymore money out of us.
