that's good to hear, may be it's not as bad as I thought, would be good to know though which cars have been snipered and what is the original processor code on the car. Maybe we should start another thread.

No mate.

I only have the latest software, but luckily enough had not done an update for a few days when this rubbish started, so I can do burning to flash boxes.

I normally do regular updates for 2 reasons, it resets your flash count, but also they ad extra features into the software from time to time and different processor codes. Just glad I did not update the other day.

To SCT:

SCT should take action against the companies that were doing the unlocking, and ripping SCT off, rather than punishing the major portion of its client base, which includes tuners (through customer angst) and their customers.

I use Windows XP, an older Windows product O/S. Imagine if Microsoft disabled every pc using XP (when getting a security patch) because it found that XP was being pirated somewhere in the world, telling me to go out and buy Vista and spend more money.

If there was viable competition out there I don’t believe SCT would take the drastic action that they have, and address it by other means.

I am a software developer and don’t treat my clients as SCT have.

I have 2 XCAL1 boxes (around $1295 each), and will be unhappy if the current major retuning on my cars is jeopardized in any way. The 90 days peace offering is not good enough.

And if you buy an XCAL 3, what’s stopping it being disabled in a years time to force everyone to XCAL 4.

A very dangerous precedent is being established here. I’m not sure that it’s legal, or allowable under fair trading laws in this country.

SCT, a more sensible course of action would be to take legal action against whoever upset you or violated your agreements.

SCT, if you do want me to upgrade, give me an upgrade price as a part of an upgrade deal, don’t suddenly make my old product obsolete. Incidentally, it’s not as if the old product doesn’t work, it works very well.

You should not punish those that have been loyal to you, more so if you want to continue to do business in this country in the future.

Hopefully you can sort this matter out, with a more acceptable solution.

Brian

p.s I assume I understand the situation correctly, based on previous posts, my apology if my understanding is incorrect.

Good point Mick. They screwed up by letting their dealers unlock the boxes regardless of the lives remaining, let them sort it out between themselves...

SCT = :beerchug:

Moved to this thread

I do not have the sniper at this stage, I enquired about it a while ago and the distributor would not return several emails over a 2 week period, so I figured if they will not help leading to a sale, how are they going to help after a sale has been made. I may have to revisit this though and give them a second chance.

I was speaking to another tuner yesterday and he told me the sniper is hit and miss on what processor codes it works on.

as I mentioned earlier, this is just info as I know it, just trying to clear up some facts

I do have Sniper. I've not encountered any problem using Sniper on a range of vehicles I've tuned. It's more indepth, more technical and has more paramaters available for adjustment than SCT and HP Tuner combined. To flash the box from your pc is around 4 times faster than SCT; to flash a PCM is around 4-8 times faster than SCT (depending on BA or BF Model). The flash box holds 5 tunes and can easily be shared between 5 cars without the need to flash any of the other vehicles back to standard like you would with SCT.

Sniper has many more features than SCT, however it's less popular due to SCT's market dominance. I do however use both SCT and Sniper to tune vehicles.

The only resonable solutions are either:

a) SCT provides a free swap over to XCAL3.

b) SCT fully refunds money to consumers if they proceed to de-activate XCAL1/2.

c) SCT provides an XCAL1/2 firmware update to address any issues, free of charge.

ie. If SCT beleives that their XCAL1/2 product is no longer viable or inferior, then THEY must rectify

this situation at no cost to the end consumer who has purchased their product in good faith.

If this does not happen then the consumer will seek refunds from tuner that sold the box, tuner will then seek refunds from their supplier. Simple.

I looked at getting sniper for my BA F6 but after a check of the ECU code was told by the tuner it was not compatible as yet. So I ended up getting a Xcal 1, This was about 4 weeks ago. If you do look at sniper speak with your tuner and make sure it will work on your car before forking out your hard earned...
