X-cal 1 To Become Useless?

I can see where SCT are coming from, they are still a business and they saw their business to be loosing potenial money. I think the way they have handled everything is shocking, a good business would have put steps into place to start to phase out flash 1, then after that start phasing out flash 2, then introduce their new product. This still would have kicked up a big fuss but would have been taking alot better than what they have done. If they phased out their products over time, they may still have some customers left but what they have done, surely they will end up with very little customers if any. It also comes down to, they are still the best product for our car, even better than $3000 + stand alone ECUs, and SCT know it. So basically they can do what they like cause they know they have the best bang for buck ecu for our cars. I hate to say it but if this does not get sorted, I will have to buy one for my car as I cant see anything on the market doing a better job.

I do agree with previous comments though, an exchange or change over for the old box + a bit of money would have been good. Im sure many people would have taken that oppertunity and swapped over to the new xcal3. I guess its a case of watch this thread.

Sniper & HP Tuners both offer similar software so don't be too quick to buy a XCAL3 mate. Granted, SCT are much more advanced but they have been around longer. If HPT & Sniper are smart they'll step up their game & develop their software to the likes of SCT & snatch all the disgruntled customers up...

yeah but are they going to step up their game by next week?? I very much doubt it, my car has been being built for the past 3 months and will be ready next week, im not going to wait any longer for other companies to get their act together. Obviously my situation is different to others but I may be forced to buy one of these fing xcal3's just to get my car back on the road...

I purchased my first XCAL1 from ebay, my second XCAL1 from CV Performance in NSW, then my XCAL2 from my tuner Monsta Torque here in WA.

Do you think some sort of trade scheme might be put in place at some point? I am booked in for a retune in 3 weeks due to having an exhaust & larger injectors fitted, how should I tackle that? I can't afford the $1000 extra on top of tuning & hardware that you expect me to pay by purchasing a XCAL3???

It’s our software key. In the event you had a customer that had to get their vehicle handled, I would take care of it for you.

The main stance is to show that we want all the x1 boxes out of the US , UK, AU, and NZ. But like I mentioned in my post we are working to get those that need tuning assisted.

I don't want a bigger screen & more memory... My Flash2 is fine for my purposes yet you're taking my right to use it away? I was never advised when purchasing it that some clown in a different country could just end the capabilities of it over night with the flick of a switch! If someone has cracked your software & is misusing your product then take it up with them or take them to court. Don't penalise the consumers who have done nothing wrong.

The $750 I spent on the flash2 will be the last of my money you see as I'm not forking out $1000AUD for something that does exactly what my current box does with larger screen & more memory. The least you could do is offer a changeover price to people that already payed for your old products??

SCT is interested in resolving all concerns. We will work directly with each dealer to ensure that a solution is available. This latest change in the software it to prevent piracy and keep those from unlocking devices and using them over and over again. SCT apologizes to all affected however, this change had to be implemented in an effort to stop others from exploiting tools used to help customers. We hope that you continue to support your local dealers and distributors. Please rest easy knowing that the precautions we have taken on the X3 will ensure that this never happens again.

If you have a flash 1 or flash 2, your devices can still switch between tunes but will not longer be custom tunable via software. Moving forward, you will be able to purchase the X3 and Livewire (ST225 applications) through authorized retailers and dealers only. The new devices give you the same features as the flash 1 and 2 with more memory, a larger screen, and on device data logging not to mention many additional parameters.

Hi Charlie,

After owning two XCAL1 & a XCAL2 flash box, I'd say I was a pretty loyal SCT customer seeing as there are other tuning options available to me & my car. I only recently purchased my XCAL2 & am now being told it is obsolete? Why is this??

Is there going to be some kind of reimbursment from your company to help me upgrade 'AGAIN' to your new model? If not, I see this as a very bad move on your part as SCT will be forgotten for the likes of HP Tuners & Sniper in the future by many people I have had contact with including my tuner...

The software has a online update built into it. You have to keep updated or else you run out of "flash burns" which decrement everytime you upload a tune to a box..

So 300 flashes aren't going to last long. I think some people still are thinking 300 tunes. Goooorne in no time
