There are only minor differences between Mk1 and MK2 nothing mechanical changed between the cars apart from in the manuals from 5 speed to 6 speed so it doesnt matter what you get. If you're keeping the car fairly stock the 4sp auto will be fine just get a nice trans cooler for it and keep it serviced with good fluids. Just a warning if you get the N/A you will regret not getting the T as you will no doubt come across someone with a 300rwkw T and be blown away by the raw power these things make so easily.

Well you've shred some light on the situation, thankyou very much. Have to say this is an awesome forums, not many good ones out anymore.

Get some affairs in order and probably pick one up as an early christmas present for myself :crybaby:

Thinking of it already, 5sp T... sounds too tempting to wait...

Mate the T and the NA are different. The big deal about the T is not at all the power nor the speed.

The XR6T is one of those brilliant freak designs that comes around from time to time and which transcends it origin and rewites the rules about fun, capability and utility. (Mini, Alfasud, Golf GTI, GTR, WRX, EVO)

The big deal about the T is the combination of fantastic all round refinement and capability and fun, Its a feeling on the road. It is just big fun at any speed or in any application. In day do day no fuss driving it also happens to be effortlessly and amazingly quick. (in no small part to the torque plateau)

Tips:

change oil at least every 7.5K km! use a high quality oil.

change all other fluids at a minimum as per the service schedule.

Make sure the car you are buying has been treated as above, if not walk on.

Just buy the auto OK, Really.

BA’s are available with the factory Premium Brakes (Black front ‘Ford’ calipers with original factory discs that were dual circular grooved units - there are better discs available). These brakes are to the normal brakes with the turbo engine is to the NA. Either get T with these or fit the aftermarket brake kit which is available from PBR. Understand that an XR6T is as quick as a Porsche 928GTS. In day to day driving when not pushed the XR6T becomes relatively even quicker. Responsive, powerful, durable brakes are are a necessity in order to properly drive and enjoy the car, and not just stop it.

And this is the type of talk that's making me steer away from the mk1 T...

:dontknow: even if running essentially stock?

MK1 will be fine as long as you go with the auto, the Mk2 is fine to go either manual or auto.

Hmm well its food for thought, really want a manual so might wait till push comes to shove and see how the prices are going on the different versions.

In all honesty mate,

There will not be much difference in price between a MKI and a MK2...

If you want a manual, get a MK2 or a BF - Don't skimp on it mate... Otherwise you will be sh*tty that you didn't get the car you really wanted...

Look around and do your reesearch mate, you'll see what I'm talking about :violent085:
