Recently I’ve noticed some stone chips which is expected, but the paint is very thin and chipping very easily compared to my other vehicle.

Is it worth getting paint protection – some firms state that it will stop chips, is this true.

Also have other members noticed that the paint finish is poor with too many corners cut and over spray under the hood and fuel cap.

I have paint protection (Ming) and the first thing I did was to take my baby for a long drive.

I expected to come back and find stone chips, particularly when I heard stones and stuff hitting the car in transit. :nugget:

When I got back and washed her, I payed particular attention to the paint work and to my surprise, I didn't find nearly as many chips as I had expected. That's not to say that there none, just not as many as I would have thought. ;)

Now, don't know if I would have had more without the protection, but my gut feeling is that I would have. If nothing else, the protection makes washing the car a real breeze and you don't need any polish.

Hope this helps?

Well,

If there's any firms out there that reckon their product will protect from stone chips........I'd like to see that.....! Get that in iron clad writing? Betcha not!

IMO, a good quality polish and wax will do as good a job as any other supposed chemical treatment. (Got to keep it up though)

Got to agree though that the stone chip problem is pretty dissapointing on suck a great car. Also got to say that I'm personally very happy with the paint on my Silver Lady.

Mackthe....

I think there is an additive in my Mercury Silver paint that attracts small stones..

I'm certain my previous VT wasn't as prone to chips as the T but then again, maybe I didn't care as much....

I have a "nose" pack on the ute which is actually a plastic film... apart from protecting the lights in also covers the first 100mm or so of the bonnet .... works well ....

as for paint protection ... I think it offers protection from the smaller things in life like bird sh*t, gunge, acid rain etc etc .... but not your average yonnie .... B)

Hi all

I have a Tint-a-Car (Ming) shop in Melbourne.

We apply all products including paint protection, unfortunately it won't stop paint chips.

This product protects your vehicle against bird poo, tree sap, maintains new car shine, easier to clean.

We also have headlight and bonnet protection , which is a thick clear film. This is what BLKXRT is referring to.
