Wheels have fallen off that mag.

I recall watching Top gear AUS ,comparison between dunnydoor and FG base models,FG was superior in most aspects, even surprising Expensive Daewoo fan journo, not to mention 2 seconds a lap quicker lap by FG then the Dunnydoor when driven by the Steg.

we wont even need to mention XR6T or F6 .

Just watch this video review by drive.com.au

http://media.drive.com.au/?rid=44061

They're playing a lot on emotional judgement rather than facts at times e.g. "the falcon feels old". Those judges don't represent enthusiasts and aren't willing to let the little things slide.

Still, not a bad review of the XR6T was it? He made a couple of interesting comments though. Better "standard" safety features. Buy the extra airbag kit and you get 5 stars. Buy the better brake package and there you go. I drove the GTi when I was looking at my latest car (the wife still wants one) and yes! a great little weapn - no doubt, but the performance differntial between the 2 was amazing. Fully option the XR6T and you're still probably paying less than the Golf.

Given that COTY appears to be a title offered to the manufactur who pays, or is in favour at the time, the eventual winner is quite meaningless to Wheels. So for the sake of the Australian car industry (for which Wheels claims to be an ardent supporter) why the hell didn't they just give it to the FG?

Expensive Daewoo Aust are in the same sh*t hole mess that Ford Aust is... so there is really no difference when/if it was to come to a sympathy vote unfortunately... :stickpoke:

However I do agree with all your other comments so no argument there...

I wonder if we as Ford fans are a little one eyed here?

Under normal standings I am/would be... but.......

Maybe despite all of this, they should have a few different categories do we think?

Havent read a Wheels for a while now, so not to sure if they already do... but maybe a Aussie Car Family Car of the Year? Aussie PCOY? Aussie Car of the Year... (all rounder)...

Just a thought!

We all know if it was - a simple 'Car of the Year' - based on general performance, economy, safety, features etc the real winner would not be a Ford or a Expensive Daewoo from Australia... Yes Bang for buck, we have a world class product no question at all! But a simple "Car of the Year" would be more like an Audi A6 or something from BMW, Merc, etc...

No???

The F6 won NZ Autocar magazine's Car of the Year award... by a big margin. As you would expect they loved it: "For those judges who hadn't driven the F6 before, the experience was eye-opening and brain-searing: for those who had, it was a reminder that this was the most memorable road test of 2008".

They finished up saying:

"Is it worth paying $24,000 more than the XR6? You bet. FPV could double that margin and we would still name this Car of the Year. If Ford were a corporation led by a genuine car enthusiast instead of an ex-Boeing exec, the F6 would be exported to Europe and the US, where it would also be quickly hailed as one of the greatest sports-sedans ever."

(The standard Falcon also won the Large Car of the Year category while the F6 got into the finals by being performance car of the year).

Honestly even one-eyed ford fans couldn't think the FG deserved car of the year. If the G6eT had been judged in isolation it would've have gone close, but it still has appalling brakes and no LSD.

I can live with the fact ford didnt win but the Honda over the 6 and also the ford not making it into the top 5.that's a joke

This is one of the reason why I have changed my subsciption from a wheels/Motor mag and have gone to the Top gear mag. Such a better read and not so biased to ford and Expensive Daewoo every month. although I own a ford and nearly every car I have owned has been a ford I dont need it to be on a cover of a mag every month

Forgeting the fact that I can't recall you ever saying anything positive about a Ford, I did say in reality, neither Falcon or Late model camira could ever be seriously considered car of the year compared to a Euro.

But, your criteria of brakes and LSD are way off the mark. The brakes are pretty damn good for normal every day driving, they're just not up to scratch for hard driving. You'll find this is pretty much the case with most cars on the road. As far as LSD goes, it's a luxury model. As is the case with most of the Euros, they don't run LSDs because the majority of juxo drivers don't want the inside wheel to squeel in low speed corners, and they're unlikely to ever turn the traction control off.

You hit the nail on the head though in relation to judging cars in isolation. The Falcon and Late model camira are judged on their huge range of models, while most of the other cars judged only have one or two models with minor equipment variations. When the Late model camira won, Wheels said it's greatest strength was the sheer size of the range and choices available, yet when it comes to FG, that doesn't apear to count.

Good Point! as have been previous posts.

Imagine if you're a Audi A6/8 or Beamer M3 or Merc AMG owner having forked out $100K - $200K+ for your ride and having the "experts" saying a local Antipodean 6T/F6 $60-70K is a better performance car! Man I would be a pissed!
