I'd imagine the fuel economy to be horrid but who cares!

With direct injection the economy is not much worse than a normal V8.

When you use the EcoBoost V8 to replace the V10 it actually uses less fuel with more power and torque. that's Fords strategy with EcoBoost, replacing bigger engines with smaller ones that make a bit more power and torque but use less fuel. The 4 cylinder EcoBoost which will go into future Focus's will have over 200 kw, 350nm at 1800rpm and use less fuel than the current XR5 engine.

yeah that's coz its a 5 cylinder engine and 2.3 as opposeed to a 4 cyl 2.0 16v model......although powers figures are good :)

The 5cyl is a 2.5L, but I spose it doesn't matter...

As others have said, too expensive to engineer properly for a fully warranted car.

Since were on the topic, can this acyaully be done with a V8 configuration or must it be a twin turbo for this reason.

a good friend of mine turboed his black BA XR8 ute. it ran a single XTR 35/40 mounted next to the gearbox.

it was tuned by Silverwater Auto Service in sydney, and pulled 500.4hp on an internally stock engine.

It was featured in the november 2005 issue of Performance Ford magazine (I'll try and scan the pages later)

It was a pretty impressive piece of gear and had plenty of fun in it.

By the gearbox!!? like under the car? I've heard of this mentioned as a possibility, that gets shut down very quickly!

How's the lag with a setup like that!!?

yeah right next to the gearbox. right in front of where your feet/pedals are. the lag it wasnt to bad considering the distance but when it did come on boost it was like driving on marbles

sorry if these pics are a bit crappy, im no good at minimising pic's

That was the point I was trying to make. Replace bigger engines with smaller ones that not only make much more power and torque, but also reduce economy and emissions.

Sounds good to me!!

in the uk though everything is usually a 2.0 litre tops so its great getting v8s and v6 turbos as everyday cars lol
