TAB, it ain't that bad, its just the looming shadow of reality. At least no matter what happens, we live in a decent place. Its all happened before and it will all happen again. Just a wake up call.

I promise I'll try to think of something happy to say soon. Oh heres something. I get to come home for eight weeks on Monday night and I get to see the family and drive my Phoon

Then in what is a strange twist of irony I have to go to LA at the end of April :bliss:

I'm not usually Mr. Brightside but lately I've been finding myself thinking, at least we have homes to cower in whilst we cry about the state of the economy.

Some peeps down here in VIC aren't so lucky...

Likewise, at least we're not ducking Israeli shells on our way to drop the kids off at school. Do you think anyone in Gaza is freaking out about the financial state of the world?

Money troubles are a luxury many people will never even experience.

...you know its sites like that after having a quick peruse....and these threads.... that make me feel like we are talking ourselves (every single one of us on the planet that will be affected by it) INTO this recession, rather than getting on with it, I dont just mean us here I mean EVERYONE.... It's like an under lying current drawing us deeper and deeper down the gurgler....

Surely in this day and age we have the ability to do something about it...

I agree completely. The media and the general population create these self fulfilling prophecies and the "we're all going to die and there's nothing we can do about it" mentality does nothing to help anyone's situation.

I'm all for being a realist, don't get me wrong. But apart from doing what we can to safeguard ourselves (read; being half sensible) it seems we need to just buckle down and ride the wave.

If the people who have the most to lose (big business) can get it so, so wrong, then I think it's fair to say that any and all speculations must be taken with multiple grains of salt.

Of course owning your own business complicates this somewhat and a certain level of increased anxiety is probably pretty healthy, but that is something that I have no experience with.

Yep, sure is some real stuff happening.

Transport industry. (Just the refrigerated division where Macka makes his living)

2008. 4 major operators go to the wall & several others floundering. All in all, something like 600+ rigs between them. (When this stuff hits the auctions it always drives a major hole in the new equipment market)

2009. None of the majors like Toll, Linfox, Woolworths etc are placing the usual orders for new gear that is normally happening this time of the year.

Toss in the terrible natural disasters of floods & fire, dress with reduced spending on fresh produce/fruit/meat etc, and you've got a section of the transport industry bleeding from the bum.

Next, take the massive reductions in heavy freight that has serviced the mining industry through the boom.

The big suppliers of prime movers like Kenworth, Western Star, Volvo etc have the largest stocks & shortest delivery times ever experianced.

No matter what spin you put on it, its going to be ugly for a while.

As for hedging by buying gold stocks etc, if Macka could do that he'd be saying to Claude, "F*k the gold Claude, lets just get back in a T & head for the beach to have a sit down"

Oh, & dont forget the Smarties....... :beerchug:

meet with a guy this moring

he said they where tendering for a new school somewhere in perth, there a 16 builders on the tendering list.

16 is crazy, normally its 3-4 or if theres not much work it maybe 6 at a push. 16 means people are desperate as hell, why would anyone want to spent $100,000 tendering a job with a 1 in 16 chance of winning it unless there in real trouble

it only going to get worse from here
