Not to mention the legallity of the whole thing.

when you on full boost and the wastefgate is open, a signifacant amount of exhaust is let out the wastegate and out the screamer, thus bypassing the exhuast. since less gas is flowing down the exhaust, it less of a restriction, so on cars will stockish exhaust it can make differnece to power.

With a well set up plumb back system you wouldn't see much gain by switching to an illegal screamer pipe.

With a 'stockish' exhaust, yeah maybe, but again, why would you go to the trouble of an external waste gate on a 'stockish' exhaust system.

u can have a screamer pipe on an internal gate mate had one on his vl turbo ULEH!!!

but sounded pretty rank heaps different sound to a external gate

phantom, a screamer pipe vented to open air does provide an increase in power if you have a restrictive exhaust system. its been proven.

No need to be negative just because you don't like someone's idea. Just don't read the topic :spoton:

To answer your question though, a screamer pipe would increase the amount of flow through the exhaust as you now have the extra pipe on top of what you had previously. This allows more power to be pushed through the same exhaust without needing to upgrade & allows better boost control. In a perfect world everyone would probably opt for a huge free flowing exhaust with external gate which would give good control & produce big numbers but not everyone is cashed up like you elite FG owners :w00t2: Screamers are just a cost effective way of holding boost & increasing power without upgrading exhaust.

:threadhijacked: stock turbine wheel is under 3 inch. with an external gate and screamer, u should in theory only need a 3 inch exhaust to make big numbers. bigger is always better 4 max hp though.

Just trying to understand why you would do it on a street car with the legal side of things.

BFHOON, I'm not doubting what you're saying, but as I said, in a well designed plumb back exhaust system there would be negligible gains to be had to then fit a screamer pipe.

turbotrana, a screamer pipe with a separate muffler would sort of defeat the purpose wouldn't it?

As I said earlier mate, a screamer pipe off an external gate (muffled or unmuffled) utilising your existing exhaust is alot cheaper than upgrading to a larger diameter exhaust & plumbing back an external gate. Agreed on the legality side of things & I think getting one to scare people is the wrong reason... Will probably also result in a defect.
