Hey guys. My 2003 BAXR6T fitted with a Unichip developed the dreaded miss, fluffing etc on the weekend. It would initialy only play up from 3000rpm onwards, but as more Kays were added the miss came down the rev range to around 2500rpm onwards. Upon reading the Forums on this website, I was able to diagnose what the problem was.

After talking to the local Ford dealership service department (Bremer Ford)about the problem (very helpful), I was told that it was the coil packs breaking down.

Replaced both plugs (fitted BF Typhoon gapped to 0.8mm) and coils, problem solved. The car absolutely flies now. Thanks guys.

My car has exact same problem at 4000rpm and thru to limit for the last 2-3 weeks, finally had enough of babying it around and took my to my tuner, yep coils.

How much should I be paying for coils and platinum or irridium plugs, tuner reckons $800 all up incls fitment and this is with 6 geniune ford coils from his source, does this sound ok or way to much?? I am in Darwin too so stuff costs a little extra anyway lol.

Also he did say I could get high performace ones but still reckons ford gen is the way to go, is this the case?

I'd also be interested in what you guys who know how much Iridium and Coils cost. My car is only just now backfiring when I floor the accelerator from low RPMs so I guess it would be going from maybe 1500rpm to whatever it can get to (just haven't taken notice of it until now after reading this thread). I can maybe make the backfire happen 4 times out of 10. I don't know if it's because when I've tried the motor's either warmed up or not. I just noticed it usually happens after being on the road for a while but then again I don't floor it after just getting out of the driveway (so don't know if it would happen whilst the motor is relatively cold).

Also sounds like I should go see a tuner and get an edit :stickpoke: I was told by the tuner that I would need to change over to Iridium spark plugs and they also suggested I should change over to low temperature hi-flow thermostat and seal (still not sure what that is exactly).
