Hi all,

Hoping someone may be able to offer some theories..

BA MK2, T56 and Phoon clutch.

Gearbox is almost stuck in neutral, if I push the clutch in and try for first, the car moves forward, same for second, etc but won't actually go into gear, (almost like its sitting on the gate waiting to drop in). If I try for reverse, not a hope in hell, just won't go in. But if I stop the engine and the car rolls a bit, then I can select gears inc reverse. Also when the engine is running and I try, nothing will happen unless I give it a little rev, but as soon as I let the clutch out then back in and try to select a gear, no go unless the little rev.

Have changed and bled the fluid and have replaced the oil in the box. Replaced the clutch a few weeks ago for slipping and hard gear selection, thought that might fix it, but it's just got worse...

Any ideas gratefully accepted..

Thanks,

Karl

I'd be pulling the 'box and checking that clutch mate.

Could have fouled something on reinstallation maybe.

Sounds clutch related to me anyway.

what pressure plate do you have in there?

The ford pressure plates (not sure about the F6) have to be pre set, eg. compressed so the springs can lock in, otherwise the presure plate wont actually apply pressure on the clutch, which will make it near on impossible to engage a gear. you can bleed the clutch all you like but it wont improve.

Did you change the clutch yourself, or get someone else to do it?

I would be finding out if the pressure plate was pre set firstly, then thinking about other causes

Hi Matte,

In answer to your questions...

what pressure plate do you have in there? - The whole "kit and kaboodle" is a F6 setup, clutch, pressure and flywheel.

The ford pressure plates (not sure about the F6) have to be pre set, eg. compressed so the springs can lock in - Unsure what this means? help?

Did you change the clutch yourself, or get someone else to do it? - I did iy myself with a mechanic looking over my sholder. A slab on a weekend for the hire of a hoist.

Thanks for the advice. Will go and check the pressure plate setting in the manual and see what I need to do

Cheers

Karl

hey sorry fellas, only just found the thread again.

I saw a picture of a F6 clutch that Tocci took, and the pressure plate looks different to the pressure plate I have, but it may still work the same although visually different.

With mine, it has printed on the face saying check the shop manual to set the springs.

It has 3 yellow springs set around the outside of the fingers, the pressure plate needs to be compressed so that the springs can slide across and hold the pressure plate in its compressed state.

When I had to do mine, I called alot of clutch specialists, and ford specialists, and my cousin at a ford dealership and none of them had ever heard of it, because it's not something that is dealt with regularly.

The head technician at Lynford knew about it though.

Maybe contact Senna and ask him to find out if it is necessary with the F6 pressure plate, or ask him if there is a knack to setting up the pressure plate before installation, you'll need to stress to him that he shouldn't simply take the first 'no, ive never heard of anything like that' as gospel.

I installed my pressure plate without setting the springs and had the exact same issue as you're talking about, and rather than wait 3 days for ford to fix it, I took my car home pulled the pressure plate out, got them to set it and had the car back there with the clutch back in within a matter of hours, all so I could finally drive my freshly manual converted falcon over the weekend.

unfortunately the ford manual I have doesn't list the fpv's so I can't check it up for you there, but if anyone has a workshop manual for the fpv's they should be able to tell you.

I hope this helps

Hey Matt,

Thanks for the continual feedback and advice. You may be onto something. Spoke to a ford-ish mechanic and he mentioned there is a trick to the phoon setup. He did say can't quiet remember what but he'll read up and get back to me. At the moment, the cars tucked away in the shed until I get enough dollars to source a new clutch. Don't want to go through the whole thing again without a new replacement. Also hoping to change over toan alloy csc whilst there. But unfortuantly, the cash is coming slow at the moment. Damn bills...

Will keep you updated if/when I find something. Again thanks heaps.

Hey fellas, good to hear the insight may help you onto the right path.

I live in karrinyup, if you want to look at my pressure plate you're more than welcome, I took a photo yesterday, but ti didn't turn out too good, so I will take another tomorro and see if it is more explanitory.

I have a .pdf for the manual, but it doesn't do the twin plate clutches (to my knowledge) but you can have the section on the clutch anyway if it helps.

Cheers fellas, good luck
