hey guys how r we?

well we recently changed from a meesley 256kb internet connection to a 1.5mb connection. We kept our own modem after finding out that it is fine for upto 20mb.

It is a speedtouch 530

we rang up the exetel line after our plan got changed over but speed continued at 256. He said we had to ring up thomson who deals with the speedtouch and get them to change the settings for it to support the 1.5mb

my question is can I do this myself? as there only open monday to friday and we r paying for 1.5mb and stuck with 256 over weekend. Can I change the modem to support the 1500 or is it something they have to do from their end?

cheers guys

If you modem is good for 20mb (ie. ADSL2+) all you need to do is turn off your modem and turn it back on.

The line speed is set when reconnection is made between your modem and their router/modem...

Your line should now be connected at 1.5mbps through the exchange.

You should be able to view your what speed you are connected at through your admin section on the router...

Type in http://192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 or 10.1.1.1 into the URL of your browser. (depends on how your modem is configured) It should come up with username/password

If you are unsure and none of these work, click on Start -> Run... And type "cmd"

This will open a command prompt... type "ipconfig /all" and look for the word "Default Gateway"... This will be the address of your router... Type this into your browser...

Your username will be either nothing, "admin", "administrator" and password will be "admin" or "password" unless you have changed it.

There should be a button for connection/status... This will tell you what your speed is...

You can also try:

http://www.speedtest.net

It should come up somewhere around 1200-1300 kbps, unless you live on the exchange LOL

Hope this helps. If not, you're stuffed... Call the ISP

I have a Speedtouch 530 myself.. Very problematic Modem..

It has to be the ISP side, I had my connection upgraded last month from 256 to 1.5, and I didnt need to change anything on the modem whatsoever
