Exhaust Has Developed A Raspy Note

I took the car for a good long drive to Mt. Donnabuang, and gave it a bit of stick

going up themountain, which was fun.

Anyway, I noticed today that the exhaust has developed a "raspy" type

of note at certain revs (around 1800 RPM). It's only there for a small rev range.

Kind of sounds a bit like crappy Lancers with big exhaust, when they take off.

Could this be a cat converter on the way out? Any ideas? :msm:

Being factory muffer, I would say the baffles in side have come lose.

You will find the baffle plates are spot welded into place and with added exhaust

pressure on the rear muffler from deleteing centre and extra power would make the chances of

the plates coming lose.

Try the heatshield first mate.

I'll be voting mine off the island when I get home tonight.

It's developed a shocking vibration in the last 2 weeks and it's started to happen not just at idle but at around 40k's as well. Worse when the AC is on.

Sounds like a f*cking rusty old corolla.

Worth a shot before you go replacing mufflers.

I had the same problem. Put the centre muffler back in, and it went away. The factory rear muffler is really quite chinese. Probably made in the nizpro factory.
