I'll dare say, a proper exhaust setup should see the XR8 nudge the 300kw mark,

Rob Herrod has already a 220 5.4. exhaust ready and a XR8/GT exhaust under development .They claims to get a 15-20rwkw gain out of the 3V 220 5.4 unit. Keeping this in mind if they achieved similar output on the XR8 you would be knocking on the door of 290kw (flywheel). Now as a 2k option (est), that's one powerful car. The thing to keep in mind is not letting the price venture into GT territory ($59,500). If your going to do that, your better off with a GT with no options IMO.

Personally I lease cars, so the difference between and XR6T and an XR8 is about $80 p/month over 3 years. I will definitely consider the Turbo, but the 8's really my thing.

By the way, this is my first Post so Howdy!! <_<

Exactly.

I think the turbo is going to be come more of a hit when the smoke settles. I base this on the following thinking.

The drive impressions from the guys that have driven both don't seem to indicate the XR8 has a substantial performance advantage. While I think the impressions and the clock might show a greater difference, if it isn't something you can feel it isn't something you are going to appreciate.

As you say the trick is that once you get the options going you are right into GT range and I agree the if you have a budget of 65k then a drive away GT is better than an optioned up XR8. I think if you are an 8 person you are going to try like mad to get to the GT. Considering it will already have 18 inch wheels and the optioned brake package from the XR8 as standard, the only real decision will be if you want Brembo's, and really these days good looking brakes are there for aesthetics more so than function.

I think the question that begs to be answered is...

"Is the 8 worth the extra $6300 on top of the turbo??" Different engine and gearbox, same everything else. Extra power but extra weight....$6300 is not a small price difference...

the xr8 is deffenatly better but 6300 isnt much there must be a downpoint

id rather get and xr6t and change the bonnet to make it look better

ive heard that the engine isnt that much better in the 8

hany

What would you do to the bonnet. I think the whole package already looks impressive. Why change it into something it aint.

I have to ad my two cents.

I love turbo cars, have had 2. I had ordered an xr6t. The salesman (who I know) called me today and asked where I was, I told him and then he rocked up 5 minutes later with a white xr8. Hmmmmm.

Okay, first impressions, pretty bloody impressive, then I stalled it. Yep. My office is on a slight hill, but still. I do not like the drive-by-wire in this car. It seems you have to push the peddle down a long way before it starts to gas up, and I obviously didn't do that enough!!!!

The sound, oh the sound. Awesome. The induction roar is unreal. I only imagine what junking the airbox and replacing it with a K&N filter pod would sound like!!!!!!! It definitely sounds the business. Then the worst thing happened. The check engine light came on and the car went into limp home mode - very impressive (750 kms on clock).

I stopped the engine and restarted it and everything was fine again. Hmmmm.

It definitely has some go, but whether it is perceptively faster than the turbo I am not sure. It is a different type of power as you would expect. Handles like a dream, very rock solid. There is virtually no mid-corner bump steer, very impressive. There is however, a LOT of driveline lash, yuck. That is the price you pay for the power in a mass produced car I suppose.

This happened about 2 hours ago, and all I can remember now is the noise. Oh yeh!

Being 12 years old hany, do you really have any idea about what you would do? After all, how many have you owned/driven??

Will you give the kid a break. He takes the time to participate on the forum because he is interested in the topics.

So what if he is too young to drive (at the moment), he'll get there if people lay off trying to knock him down to size!

Yes, I am old enough to:

1. show some respect to others, and

2. be Hany's father.

I can't even say how good the XR8 goes as yet...haven't had the chance to have a test drive. Didn't stop me walking in there and ordering one. yeah, I know, I'm just a V8 guy. But after signing up for the 8, I was treated to a drive of a manual XR6 Turbo. I have to say, It was sensational. Manual it was, and did I love overtaking a few cars on the open road..BLOODY OATH! The surge over 2500 was beautiful. I found the manual shift excellent, better than the non turbo XLS ute I drove. Funny that seems to be a bug bear of some journo's. Here's me thinking if this is 240Kw, what's 260Kw like. I'm sure I've done the right thing.

I've had some quick cars, some quicker, some not quite as quick, and the XR6 Turbo is definitely a no fuss quick rig.

AMoffat,

I will give the kid a break when he;

a- learns how to spell (can't, like most 12 year olds coming out of our education system today); and

b- tells us why the 8 is "deffenatly" better. After driving both, I am sure he could share his views on the good and bad side of both.

I have no problem him joining in whatsoever to this forum. You must be proud to have raised another Ford man. :)

I'm not hany's father, I barely know his Mum!

I have raised a Ford fan, 18 yr old with KH Laser - I managed to do this without always criticising his point of view, even if it was wrong. He (like hany) needs some room to make his own mistakes, just like I did.

As for spelling, if the rule was for no mistakes this site would not have many members, of any age.
