Deep Scratches (keyed?)

Recommended Posts

I discovered three deep 4 inch scratches on my bonnet. Somebody either dragged something over the bonnet (top left corner) or they keyed it. I hope its not the latter. :(

The scratches are through to the undercoat.

I would be interested in knowing how panel beaters deal with these repairs. Do they have to respray the whole bonnet or is there some magic short cut?

Any ideas on cost?

Regards,

Northerly

Dude,

Sorry to hear about the scratches. Don't worry, I'm not about to go on as I've said b 4 how willful damage to our cars really peeves me awf.

Try Kwik Fix. They have helped me out twice with the 'mishaps' that have happened to our XR. Cheap alternative to getting a respray. Give 'em a go.

Northerly,

sorry to hear about the scratches, probly some gelious SS driver.

Don't muck around with getting only the scratached parts painted, respray the whole bonnet. Just painting the scratched area will most definately have a slight difference in colour no matter how good the painter is. Plus the bonnet being such a large flat surface it will be easy to pick the repair.

l agree with Benny, especially if your car is a metallic colour. If the scratches are deep and through to the metal then its worth having done properly.

Ed, were your scratches through to metal of was it just the top coat? How much do they charge for this type of service?

Mate, very sad to hear, I still don't understand why someone would do such a thing

Because they're weak, useless, pathetic, jealous scumbags who deserve something I can't mention here!

Mondie.

A good half of my bumper was scraped, they moulded the plastic back in place and re-sprayed a good third of the bumper.

$115.00

There were deep scratches in the metal on our bonnet caused by some wayward phantom rocks, they were simply touched up, not too bad a job.

Job: $40-$60.00 on it's own.

Deep scratches to the metal may require a more expensive fix up job, especially if the metal is dinted. Deep scratches (that don't expose bare metal) can be cut and polished.
