 Well, on my way to work this morning my T decided that it would like a little rest before going to much further!! <_<

I was overtaking slower cars on the Northern Ring Rd and was about to shift from 2nd to 3rd. The car was pulling somewhere between 3500 and 3750 RPM and it gave a jolt and started to sound like a truck!!

I pulled over, and I must admit after having read through this forum over the past little while wasn't too concerned (a bit concerting I must admit) and figured that if I pulled over, turned the car off and restarted it it would be okay. Guess what, it was!!

I presume that I am going to have to speak to the dealer about what may have happened.

Has this happened to many other T owners?? My car only clocked up its 350th Km today!!

Any hints?

Sounds like it may have been the dreaded overboost situation that several members have reported.

Get your dealer to download the faults from your computer and chances are you have had an overboost.

I'm not too sure what the "Ford Fix" is for this.

Well, if you're passing another car on the open road in the same lane as oncoming traffic, you trust the power won't suddenly disappear!

sh*t happens and if some sort of engine failure occurs you just have to do what you can and hope you've left enough of a safety margin.

But, if the culprit is a F***ing computer that spits the dummy because it thinks some parameter or another has been exceeded, that's pretty ugly!

Surely the thing could have been programmed to give audible and visual warning signals but to provide whatever power the car is capable of for at least 30 seconds or so before turning off the urge.

Even in suburban driving, we rely on the car not to suddenly stall or stop (eg turning right into a road with oncoming traffic) Imagine having a prang and finding out later that the computer went into panic mode and shut down the shop when engine power would have otherwise continued!

I would really like to know if these concerns are valid - ie is the ECU programmed to turn of the urge instantly if it thinks something's gone wrong. If so, there should be some sort of emergency override, say by flooring the accelerator, that gives whatever power the engine is capable of, for a limited time to get out of immediate danger - then the computer's concerns can be addressed when the emergency is over!

Hope I'm worrying about nothing, but I have some trust in an engine that is well maintained and sounding sweet. I have little trust in computers!

Regards

zeke
