Like I said, took me 14months but I found a GS. I looked at dozens of both and most were pretty ordinary. My biggest advice is dont buy the first one you come across and use decent food (you wouldnt put unleaded in your car would u...)Mals are very pack orientated and this WILL be a problem if (well, when) they start getting dominance issues. A good customer is a professional dog trainer and her Mal is a great dog (very friendly with most people and other dogs he knows) BUT she reckons you have to be on the ball all the time.Heat wont be an issue for you but if you are really prepared to spend a lot of time finding a decent one and training it, you shouldnt have a problem.I gather you want a proper dog (ie one that cant be carried in a handbag) but another breed worth looking at are the Bernese Mountain Dogs. MaTTe Member 143 Member For: 16y 2m 12d Location: Perth Posted 09/01/09 02:17 PM Share Posted 09/01/09 02:17 PM the alaskan malamutes are great dogs, but I've always preferred siberian huskys..If you're in a cool climate it's not too much of a problem, but malamutes sweat through their skin, whereas huskys sweat through their paws, in summer my mates husky just puts it paws into her water bowl to keep cool, but it also reduses the smell meaning you don't HAVE to wash the dog as regularly.. but either way they're very intelligent dogs, very loyal, very furry.The main complaint I have heard of male malamutes is that they don't respect women as an owner as they know being a male that they are superior.. He wasn't cheap. we bought him from a breeder and the parents are full show dogs. We have papers and all the bullsh*t to verify it.2nd pic is of my dog on the left and my dads dog on the right. When you take them for a walk they pull HARD!!! You have to be quite strong to hold them back. My dog weighs about 51kgs. We had a harness and a choker chain to train him no to pull.
