Hi everyone, great forum.Just a little about my self. I left a major Ford dealership in Sydney after working in the spare parts sales department for over 20 years about 6 months ago and as a going away present bought myself an FG XR6T.this is my first post even though I joined up about 5 weeks ago. So why Know? Because I was told something today and I am hoping that someone in this forum who is in the Ford servicing field can confirm this.

I took my FG back in today for some warranty work, an engine sump leaking oil only after 7000 km, and apparently it will be the 3rd one that they have had in with the same problem, but that's not what concerns me. After telling a couple of my mates, who are the head mechanics there, that I was going to Flash Tune the car they warned me not to. Apparently The Ford engineers have now a program that can detect if a BFII or FG has ever been flashed tuned at any stage of its motoring life. They claim that they have had first hand experience with this and to talk to the poor bloke who brought his BFII XR6T in with a blown motor a couple of months ago wanting Ford warranty to cover the damage.

Any warranty work costing Ford over a certain amount of dollars they send in an engineer to the dealership and he gives the go ahead to commence the work. Apparently the first thing this engineer did was to hook up the cars ECU to his computer and after a few minutes he came to the conclusion that the car had been Flashed tuned and detuned on a couple of different occasions and so declined the warranty claim and they have not heard from the bloke since even after threats of legal action from him.

But it gets worst, they told me that Ford will be selling the software to the dealerships so that they can determine if trade ins on new cars have been Flashed tuned at any stage and if so it will devalue the car by thousands, Because if sold its the dealership that warrants the car and not Ford Motor Company, potentially saving them a fortune.

They told me that a Flash Tuned car would loss all warranty on the whole motor, transmission, differential and drive shafts.

Could someone in the know please tell me if its true or not, sadly if its true I will have to give up the thought of a Flash Tune.

Thanks all

yeah I heard a while back that the BF ecu's log all changes made to the maps, and rather than replacing the last flash, it just adds it to the list.

All it basically means, is make sure you go to a good tuner and get a safe tune, don't do burnouts and everything should hold together.

Or wait until the warranty is up to start making changes..

OR buy a cheap ba/bf turbo and make a weapon out of that and keep the FG as a daily driver

but either way, ford finally got smart after forking out bucketloads on warranty claims

Hi.

Welcome to the forums and to 2004

Saying round here is, You play you pay. Ford have been able to do this for a quite awhile now, just most here don't try and claim warranty for things that are power related.

:spoton:

Don't mind Envy, he's the forum bulldog. Cute but angry

There has been all sorts of conjecture being thrown around for years about what they can and can’t lookup, but at the end of the day I think it’s a good thing. Can’t really expect them to warrant something beyond what it was designed for.

Woof Woof, can I hump your leg now Tabitha?

I have known first hand, as has Adam (the mod) that they can tell from as early as BA in 2004. It's now just alot easier for the apprentice to find aswell.
