Brembo Brake Callipers

Hi Guys

I’m looking at fitting 6 pot Brembo callipers to my FG F6 and moving the standard 4 pots to the rear. Effectively upgrading to the premium brakes.

I managed to get hold of 6 pot Brembo callipers and front rotors, which I asked Ford to fit during the recent service, but they didn’t want to do it, because they said the callipers are for the GT, not the F6 and they weren’t sure if the F6 brake booster matches the Callipers.

The rotors fit fine and the four pot callipers can be moved to the rear, but the only thing they were unsure of is the front callipers.

I figured the Brembo’s callipers are the same on F6 or the GT range. Can any one comment?

I would assume the calipers are the same, the hubs are no different and they run the same size wheels.

As your Ford service dept has told you, the booster may be different though. I don't remember there being an obvious difference about the two though...

I asked the same question and I was told that you can't swap the front 4 pot calipers to the back...?

They did say somthing about the GT has a 12 point booster and the F6 is a 10 point booster.

If that makes any sence??

I dont know about the F6's or GT's but you can use the front FG brakes on BA/Bf's.

I recently purchased FG 6 Pot Brembos and the only thing that needed replacing for it to fit on my car were the brackets.

Apart from that it was a direct fit and it works fine. :blink:

The major mechanical modifications that you propose to make to the braking system replicates an existing factory specification. In the not so distant past this was an assured way to obtaining well sorted and balanced braking performance.

However, the FG series contains an integrated stability control system. You really, really, really need to sort out the stability control aspects of the modification before proceeding. Sorry I can't help you here, I just don't know and I may have it completely wrong, but, the thought of a stability control system taking over and going haywire in a nascent emergency situation is too awful to contemplate. There are also potentially insurance and legal aspects to this matter that you need to consider.

Good point!

This would be the reason Ford were hesitant to fit them, because the callipers are for the FG GT, not the FG F6. They are only looking at the part numbers.

Even though they are different part numbers, you would think Brembo callipers would be interchangeable between the current Ford range. I know there the same brakes between for the BA and FG.

You would think the 6 and 4 pot callipers are same on all Fords. I couldn’t see the reason making different baking systems for GT, F6 and the F6X.

That just means extra costs!

Hi,

does anyone know where caliper mounts/brackets can be purchased from (for BA turbo) ? (no joy via google)

Called Ford today..they will only sell whole complete caliper w/bracket ($1000 each).

Will try FTG when they reopen on 12th. Any others (new or used)??

The brackets cant be purhased seperate from anyone.

As for the rubbish about the calipers not fitting a F6 that's rubbish, they are all the same and share the same part numbers. You can order a F6 with the 6/4 combo.....The brake booster from the base model to the F6/GT-P will support the brembos as it has done in all previous models.

Lastly the front 4 pot fronts WILL NOT fit the rears, the brackets are totaly different and the front discs are 355x32mm while the rears are 330x26mm.
