Hows everyone else going for tyre wear on their FG's?

16000k's and the rear tyres are down to the wear lugs. Its only in the middle of the rear tyres.

Running 40psi and have had the tyres rotated. No burnouts and the wife drives the car daily to work and back.

Have done some towing of dual axle stock trailer.

Done 13000kms with two rotations done so far.

Wear looks good. Should be on track for around the 30000km mark.

What are you calling the 'wear lugs'?

If it's only worn down in the middle of the tread I'd say 40psi is too high.

I run 36psi front and rear and wear is even across all 4 tyres.

Have you got some pics of your tyres?

hi mate tyre wear in the middle is a sign of over inflation ,do you use the servo's gauge or do you have your own. Most of the servo's gauges are out as they get knocked around dropped, and the servo's owners are tight arse's and wont replace them.Check them with an other gauge and you might find there is more air in there than you thought. Also check it when towing as air expands when heated.Run my fg at about 36 ,wear normal.Cheers Nick

As far as I know all tyres have wear lugs. If you look inbetween the tread every so often you will see a raised section of a couple of mm's.

I should have said that the car also has the 19inch wheels. 40psi is the ford recommended pressure.

I will try and take some pics tonight.

We will be towing the trailer again for the next three days clocking up about 3000k's so will check pressures to see if the tyres are getting hotter whilst towing.

Like Roosters said though, if it's only wearing down in the middle section of tread then that is a common sign of overinflation.

Definately over-inflation if your down to the tread wear indicators after 16,000k's. Important is what your using to measure your tyre pressures and if your doing this hot or cold. You may in fact have much higher tyre presures then you realise. All this extra pressure is causing you to constantly drive on the centre tread of your tyres. If you start to see canvess then there about to blow out.

I.B.

I got 22k out of the rears on the fg ute (down to the wear indicators and then had a blow out on a dirt road). I could have squeezed 27k with out the blow out. that was with a lot of hwy but regular "private rd" shenanigans.

Fronts will make it to 50k easy.

I'm running 42 in the front and 38psi in the rear with 19's. The 38 is more to give it better traction and 42 to stop the edges on the front from wearing out. My rears have cosiderably more wear than the front but I'm pretty sure that's due to the extra wheel spin I'm getting over stock. I do mainly city driving and would hope to get 20000k, hopefully.

I'm putting it down to all the towing I do. As I said all tyres had 40psi (cold) in them but it was only the rears that were worn.

On a trip I just did towing the trailer again, I had a cold inflation pressure of 34psi in the rears and when I stopped to get fuel checked the pressure in the rears and they were at 40psi.
