though the service guy said FG no longer have a gasket :spoton:
We have lots of bfs and territorys leaking oil from the timing covers as they use only sealant instead of gaskets.

Do you know the original poster personally?

He didn't say anything of the sort about leaking oil on the driveway, intersections and everywhere else he drives at all.

If the leak turns into a major one then there will be evidence of it won't there?

How can you say that 'Fords quality workshop service' is pathetic?

It hasn't been fixed yet.

revheadrobbo, I don't think you would be too concerned about oil/water contamination unless the gasket is blown into the combustion chamber.

If the gasket is only leaking oil externally then there would be no cause for concern.

Regardless of how bad it is, an oil leak is a roadworthy issue. For your dealer, or any mechanic, to send you away in an unroadworthy vehicle is crap. Unless you ask to hold on to the car, it should be kept in the workshop untill it can be fixed. Who's gonna pay the fine when the boys in blue get a hold of it? I bet Ford won't, and by the same token, who's gonna pay for the oil needed to keep the car running? Again, it won't be Ford.

Also, for a car under warranty, I would expect a loan car... It's not good enough, after having just paid upwards of $45k, to be sent home in a taxi (again, who pays???)

I've never bought a brand new car, but I've heard, read, & seen enough, to know that I never will.

You can speculate all you like but you didn't see the leak so you have no idea how bad it was or wasn't.

A qualified tradesman did and made a judgement call in his/her experience that it would be ok. End of story.

If it was looking like a roadworthy issue I doubt they would have let it go as if something happened then they would be legally responsible for letting an unroadworthy car back onto the streets.

We have had plenty of FGs coming in for the same leak the BFs were having which was from the timing cover. If you dont like FORDS or their service I suggest buying something else instead of owning one and whinging on a forum. All cars have problems and unfortunately Ford havent got the timing cover sealing process soughted. If you knew how simple it was to fix you wouldnt be so stressed about them pulling your engine apart as the head doesnt need to come off. I agree with PHANTMXR6,the cars dont seem to be pissing out whilst driving and they wouldnt even need a top up within a week so the Mechanic has had to make a call as to keep driving till time to carry out repair or leave it with them cos its too bad to drive. Everyones wrong at some point not just Mechanics but I doubt hes wrong when he said its ok to drive.

The heat out in the west could be a factor?

Geez you blokes are harsh considering you know nothing about the car in question.

how do you know we know nothing about the car in question??

do you work at the dealership this car was taken to??

my comment wasnt directed at the dealership in question, just a general statement that professionals aren't correct 100% of the time mate :beerchug:

You're right, I don't. But if you do, why didn't you say so. Just standing up for the profession.

But to have your first post on the subject saying what you said would obviously get some people in the trade's back up.

I don't work at the dealership that the car in question went to, but that is irrelevant.

Yes, we aren't correct 100% of the time, but as ebxmple has said 'Everyones wrong at some point not just Mechanics but I doubt hes wrong when he said its ok to drive.'
