my missus went on them a few months ago. almost immediately went from a pack in 1 1/2 days to pack every 3 days, quit on the 8th day and hasn't touched a smoke since and has even become a typical ex smoker.

And she had been smoking for 14 years and was able to give up like that.

On a side note, apparently champix can be used to beat just about any addiction, not just smoking. It supposedly recognizes your addiction and kills off those cells that want the addiction to continue.

(NOTE, I have no proof of this, only what I have been told! Please don't flame me)

I'm with Dillz..

Don't smoke and never had, however 1 in 100,000 is not bad odds.

The question I would have asked, would have been under what situation the '1' happened...

They say Stilnox (sleeping tabs) cause people to sleep walk, drive cars, bump themselves off, etc... and its an oooohhhh so bad drug/sleep tab...

I have taken a number of different sleeping tablets, of which I found stilnox to not cause any of these things, let alone waking up feeling like ive been run over by a farking truck in my sleep...

After speaking to 3 doctors they all mentioned the same thing "AS THE PACK SAYS - DO NOT TAKE WITH ALCOHOL".... As they believe this is the cause to the main side effects... Again I wonder the 1 in 100,000 - what is the reason behide the '1'?

How often people dont follow instructions when taking drugs!!!

Envy - Top effort bud, and all the best with the sacking the smokes!!!

I went cold turkey after 20 years of smoking. Used the Alan Carr method of boring you int thinking about why you smoke.

Made quitting easy as you are reverse brainwashed into thinking quitting is easy and it was.

Mu PA did Champix and stopped for 5 months, but her husban is a 2 pack a day smoker and he continued smoking inside the house, so she has started. She is going to nag him into trying it so they can quit together.

Well done on QUITTING (it is not giving up, it is QUITTING), I have been smoke free for over 2 years and it was the best thing I ever did.

I think the big thing is that you have to WANT to give up for yourself first and foremost. If you are giving it up soley for someone else or that is a major contributor to your choice then I think you will always feel a little resentment, for want of better words, and it will be quite easy to fall into the habit again.

DAGS, I hope you choke lmao. I got very drunk on Xmas day and the saturday before and found no urge whatsoever to smoke. As has been said, the 1 in 100,000 may well have been predisposed to suicide eg a depressive already. As this drug works on blocking the endorphins released when you smoke, most depressives would probably have very little or any function of that part of the brain anyways.

But as with marijuana smoking, all the so called experts say that the schizophrenia basically has to be underlying, and that the pot is what opens the door to it.

Who knows, but if I can quit with this drug, I will be happier than ever.

Jokes aside good luck to you Marcus.

As you said it all comes down to the individual wanting to give up in the first place it doesn't matter what Snake Oil the grifters sold you, if you don't have the mind power/mind set to over come the addiction in the first place.

Spot on.

You need to want to do it otherwise you're buggered before you start.

I don't want to now but I'm confident I will eventually. Probably when I have a kid.

My gf's brother went on the Champix and it basically sent him troppo. He couldn't sleep or concentrate or keep himself from blowing his top (he NEVER usually has a temper). He couldn't hack it but managed to stop for a few months anyway.

I figure by the time my body is riddled with cancer, in the year 2030 or whenever, they'll be able to transplant my brain into another host-body or some other crazy medical solution. Pretty sure I saw that sh*t on RPA...
