Hey guys.. need your advice. Had a nail removed and repaired, however I had noticed a very minute leak coming from the repaired puncture. Took it back to repair centre and they repatched from inside but air/bubbles still coming out of the rubber insert/patch from outside. They said nothing can be done but buy new and there is still plenty of tread. It's only a small leak but I will need to check daily (pain).

Should I take my tyre to another specialist or is there something I can buy from a autoshop that I can inject into the hairline puncture.

Cheers for your help

Where abouts exactly did the nail puncture?

Did the nail go in through the sidewall?

You can try that goop stuff, but I think its only for temporary fixes..........

as much as it sucks to lose a good tyre ,if you do keep the patched one be careful most patched tyres are only rated to 120kph

why

Because if it's near the sidewall and you are trying to take a corner with a bit of speed and the sidewall is all loaded up.

Potential to go bellyup pretty quick. Especially if it's a steerer.

:stupid:

side wall, and/or close to is a NO NO... its not even road worthy if its patched and the repair is discovered by the road boys (if to close to the sidewall)...

However if its all good and closer to the inside, have they used a 'gel patch' thing, or 'plugged' the tyre?

I have had a few plugged tyres over the years on work cars and all been fine!!!

Also had a larger bolt in a tyre one day, which actually had a small split in the tyre from it... rather then plugging it they removed the tyre from the rim, and put a gel patch on the inside of the tyre... was all good even when the tyre was worn and I smoked it up the day before getting then replaced! still didnt give way!

See if they can use the gel patch if they have plugged it only... this will cover a greater area of the puncher area and there for should give a better seal!

Plug $5-$15...

Patch $20-$40...

Replace the tyre, as stated above puncture repairs not really rated for turbo charged cars.

Totally agree with this but for any car. The side wall which it sounds close to, does not have the same strength as the tyre bead so it is always a replace job when that gets damage. Nothing more important then your tyres and a blow out or failure at reasonable speed is generally catastropic.
