hard to tell robbo, due to being no.6 plug by the time I got it out the whole spark plug and socket was covered in oil.

Just took the car out for a spin and gave it a couple of WOT runs(to the speed limit ofcourse) and the car feels 100% better. No more spluttering and the push in the back of the seat seems alot better right thru the rev range. Im not sure if it was the new coils or the fact that I finally regapped the dodgy spark plugs the tuner installed for me but after 6 months of pain of going back and forth to the tuner and my local mechanic checking various sh*t and replacing it then been on the dyno 3 times to resolve the issue and it came down to coils and/or plugs...happy happy joy joy

Well if your not sure if the oil is from the combustion chamber or the rocker cover it makes it a bit hard.

If it's only from the spark plug tube then all you will need is a new rocker cover gasket.

But if it's from the combustion chamber I still say do a compression test.

I was hoping it was just the rocker cover gasket, then I could say to my wife, seeing as I have to pay for the gasket and labour to fit, its only a few bob more to do the valve springs aswell. But in the new year I will get a comp test done first. Thanks for the advice

Mate I wouldn't worry about it its probably a gasket leak.If was coming from the rings the plug should be dry and a deposit of carbon would build on the plug.On the fire stroke (power stroke)it would burn all traces of engine oil in the chamber so if the plug is coming out wet its not coming from the cylinder.Cheers Nick

Could be worn piston rings on that cylinder.

Should do a compression test and see what sort of difference you get across the range.

I wouldn't bother with a rocker cover gasket. That doesn't seal your combustion chamber.

Mate a compession test will only check the first and second ring not the oil rings,so if the compression comes up okay it dose not mean the oil rings are okay.If the engine is burning excessive oil the plug will be covered in carbon deposits.Cheers Nick

ok Nick thanks for that. The electrodes themselves werent fouled or anything and my car doesnt blow any smoke that I can tell. Is a gasket leak bad, will the engine survive without it being done for a while?

Mate. haven't any idea on the turbo 6 engines.Keep an eye on the engine oil level if your topping it up with more than a litre a week get it fix asap.I worked as a motor mechanic for 10 years in sydney at a high performance shop we specialized on ford V8 motors.Cheers Nick
