Woah that sucks Tmac, didnt happen to be on Monavale Rd you got done on? Headin away from the beaches that's a huge jump in speed change

Nope, it was in the sticks, on a road I've driven on for years, although not for about 6 months. The 90 zone used to be 100 (110 further down the road years back), and the length of the 60 zone had been increased. I didn't see the new 60 signs and wasn't expecting to have to slow down til later down the road. I got done just before where the old 60 zone started

Yeh its true theres no intention but its fact that road rules are the only laws where intent doesn't have to be proven and I highly disagree with this but they go by the rule "ignorance is no excuse".

If you have a good driving record then you may have a chance, they'll just wave it off as a momentary lapse in concentration which is what it was by the sounds of it

I'm seeing a lawyer on Friday (at $350/hour) to see if I can go to court to seek a reduction in the suspension, or a probationary/drive to work licence. As has been said, ingorance is no excuse. I did the wrong thing and accept I got caught.

I just find it a bit rough that they have snuck these suspension laws in that no one knows about. Next time you're butt sitting a silver T doing bang on the limit everywhere, have a little pitty, :spit:

I got caught doing 104km/h in a 60 zone last year. (I was my own stupid fault no excuse) $700 fine, 8 points and automatic 3 month suspension. if I was going 105km/h it would have been over $1000 fine 10 points and 6 months well that's what the cop said anyway, so I was a lucky. I had to wait to get the letter in the mail saying that it was suspended took that the the court to say I was appealing the sentence (not the charge). took that the queensland transport who reinstated my license till the court date and then just went to court and said that I needed my license for work, I drive a truck, and they canceled the suspension. and I don't have the best driving record either.

The rule you are talking about has been around for more than 5 years, you also missed another 130 in 110 zone which is only 20 over earns a 3 month suspension also.

Repealed last year. Caused to much confusion and the RTA pulled it. Was one of the dumbest speeding offences going round.

Over the last three days, I have seen more police cars, more speed cameras, I mean almost triple what is out there as the norm. Now I know people do stupid stupid stuff on the road at this time of the year usually alchohol related, but my observations have been during the day.

Now the reason for my perplexion is why can Police now be out and about in such force, pulling drivers over on highways (an assumption is being made by me that this is for speeding or other such traffic related fault), putting speed cameras all over the place. When they dont do it in my view throughout the year with any consistency.

Now I have been a big advocate of the Police and the arduous, dangerous and most times sh*tty job that they do, but the sceptic in me is seeing more police action when there are double demerits in force. Sorry Sly and Ionic but please if you could can you throw some light on this for me as from where I am sitting this is cashing in. If it was RBT's at this time of the year then that in my mind would make a world of sense, but this no.

Scotty

If your referring to QLD issues as your from Brissy then I doubt we have anything concrete other then some educated guesswork. Is it really any different to other years at the same time???

Often RBT is mentioned in some form on here as it is quite visible when it is carried out and the general public are of the belief that RBT is solely for detecting pissed idiots, but RBT actually detects far broader issues, where more fines and charges are in fact laid for non-RBT matters.

As always, it really is the time of year to do all the right things.
