Over the last three days, I have seen more police cars, more speed cameras, I mean almost triple what is out there as the norm. Now I know people do stupid stupid stuff on the road at this time of the year usually alchohol related, but my observations have been during the day.

Now the reason for my perplexion is why can Police now be out and about in such force, pulling drivers over on highways (an assumption is being made by me that this is for speeding or other such traffic related fault), putting speed cameras all over the place. When they dont do it in my view throughout the year with any consistency.

Now I have been a big advocate of the Police and the arduous, dangerous and most times sh*tty job that they do, but the sceptic in me is seeing more police action when there are double demerits in force. Sorry Sly and Ionic but please if you could can you throw some light on this for me as from where I am sitting this is cashing in. If it was RBT's at this time of the year then that in my mind would make a world of sense, but this no.

Scotty

I agree more cops all the time, GD and Hwy. Just not having all of them hiding behind bushes, get em out there doing RBT, road worthys and rego checks.

Never going to happen as all the government cares about is the money they are making from it. If being able to get caught for speeding as little as 2km/hr over the limit isn't for the sake of making a quick buck I don't know what is.

I think there trying to keep the road toll under 400 this year, which will make it one of the lowest since records began. Then they come out and tell us sh*t like, the speed and red light cameras are keeping the road toll down,so why don't we just put them up everywhere.Cheers Nick

There is more vigilance out there probably due to

  1. the "speed kills stupid" campaign.
  2. School hols have started
  3. more traffic on the road
  4. statistically higher numbers of crashes and deaths at this time of year.

Now that someones mentioned it I have been seeing a hell of a lot more cops on the road lately, at least 1 every morning now (usually a speed trap as I turn out of my street :uziman: :ARFiring::blink::busted1: ) and about 3 every arvo on the way home from work.

Wouldnt be a coincidence that its at this time of yr either, but meh

MORE POLICE + DOUBLE DEMERITS = MONEY

The RTA pays for police overtime at this time of the year to do traffic operations. Although they also do it at other times of the year they don't allocate as much money so throughout the rest of the year it justs costs too much to do this also these police sometimes work up 20 days straight without a break you cannot do this all year round. The money raised through tickets etc goes to the govt coffers it dosn't go into allocating new resources, the police department dosn't see any of it.
