Krazy Kyle Get It To Wheelspin Uncontrolably Then Give It Another 5 Pounds Cruise Control 2,697 Member For: 14y 2m 6d Gender: Male Location: Work Posted 05/08/16 06:22 PM Share Posted 05/08/16 06:22 PM (edited) Sooo.... we all know E85 and long trips dont mix. So the idea of a fuel cell hit me. Would be installed in a ute, up front and centre of the tray. What im after is people with experience with race cars and/or experience with ute trays and the fuel system. What do you think it would take to mount a fuel cell and plumb it into the existing tank/lines. Not after one with a fuel gauge (well not immediately), basically just keeping the factory tank full until the cell empties. So tank would read full until the cell empties, unless this would cause issues somewhere.... Perfect world I would have one made up to fit the width of the ute, making the most of the space to get decent litrerage without hampering the carry space or adding weight too high up. But in the mean time I was looking at something like this.... (this one is 83L) For those who have stripped a ute down, is it feasible? Is there structure to bolt the cell down and run lines? And legalities with refueling? Edited 05/08/16 06:25 PM by Krazy Kyle

The fuel tank is pretty close up against the steel supports in the tray. Best pic I have showing the fuel tank with the tray off. I'm not to sure on legalities but when I helped a mate add a long range tank to his cruiser the engineer wouldn't allow them to be linked, they had to be switched with separate pumps.

Or is the spout high enough that it would be above the highest point of the cell? Ultra long range tank FTW! Mad Max knows what's up.

We can discuss in person.

You would possibly be able to set it up like the new toyotas. As kyle suggested feed into the main tank via a seperate pump, then when the fuel gauge reads empty it is accurate. Toyota have gone away from the seperate switch, well they have in the prados and new HJ series. The way Kyle summarised is how nissan patrols work with their seperate tanks
Mace Member 4 Member For: 17y 5m 22d Posted 13/09/16 04:45 AM Share Posted 13/09/16 04:45 AM I looked into this a while back for my sedan but couldn't find anything. I ended up getting a flexible bladder tank and plumbing it in to the factory filler, all gravity fed and drained with a breather out the top, I've recently taken it out so I can get LPG in. I took photos as I removed it, so I'll post a guide of what I did when I get time. Back on topic.... http://www.browndavis.com.au/tanks.php?make=FORD&model=FALCON&series=2002-2009 These guys make a 132L tank that goes into the Utes. It fits in perfectly, uses the factory hoses, fuel pump, gauge etc. Its just a bigger capacity tank. Reasonable price too. You can pretty much fit it yourself.
