Sorry Dave, but I'll add a little to your confusion.

I drive an auto XR8 with 15000km now. I had a run with a turbo acid rush before, I think it was an auto by the way it shifted. As I was expecting from testdriving some turbos before(the lag before ~40kph),I had a good car length and kept this way untill mid 2nd gear which is about 110?kph.

No much difference in acceleration, but you'll be frustrated with the initial turbo lag. Unless you get it manual or floor the accelerator a bit before letting go the brakes.

I've had a run in my manual XR6T sedan with a manual (I think) XR8 ute. We were neck and neck the whole time, there was never more than a metre seperating us. So IMO if you're talking straight line speed, there's pretty much no difference between the XR6T and the XR8 (for manual trans anyway).

I reckon both the XR8 and the XR6T are great cars. The main reason I got the T was the price difference with the sedans. If the price difference with the sedans was only about $1000 like the utes, then I may well have been driving around in an XR8 now.

Go the 8 mate. IMO don't muck around with the XT. I actually test drove RATTs car before I bought the XR8. Substantial increase in price, at the time approx. $9k. But you get a whole lot more for your $9k !!! I picked mine up for $48,500 drive away in sep03. A friend paid $49k, in dec03. Bargain hard, throw on Herrods exhaust, filter, guaranteed high 13s. :banghead:

Dave.

Mate, the XR8 ute has the better manual trans, though in my opinion the xr6t is the better overall package.

I have driven a number of XR8 ute's and I must say I am disappointed on every drive, the engine sounds beautiful and you keep waiting for the power to come on, it never really does.

If you are motivated by better road handling and a broader spread of engine torque and the potential to further increase both torque and power at a reasonable price the XR6T ute offers the best value and excitement. :innocent:
