I have found it to be much better and more consistent at high speed on country roads than IRS.The Wattls link is a bit firmer and a bit more of a compromise however I'm more turned on by handling than comfort. All (well 90%) of my driving is on country roads, and a good bit of dirt, and I've had no problems like you've described. I do use good shocks, always Konis or Bilsteins.AND ... I didn't say it was better than IRS ... what I said was that it was under almost all circumstances 95% as good ... that's talking in absolute terms. However I've also said, and I still stand by it, that, for the extra cost of producing IRS, the cost/benefit over a Watts link is negative. ie it is not IMO worth the extra 50% (???) cost for a 5% improvement in ride/handling. Oh, and remember the driveline lash that is so bad in the BAs - well, guess what, it is basically 100% attributable to the IRS - the utes don't suffer. so if you put the IRS into the ute you can expect all the driveline shunt the sedan guys are complaining of ... not for me, thanks anyway! Finally ... Ford would not want to have two separate chassis for a ute when the one they have is perfectlt suited for it's purpose. And the ute does weigh MORE than the sedans, not just close to or as much ... I also have Konis in my EF but it's a Fairmont wagon (leaf springs beam axle) with XR6 motor and lots of suspension mods - enough that it handles line ball with my T3 and ZL (Watts link) in almost all driving conditions. But none of them keep up with the ol' RS2000 if I'm in a real hurry to go point to point in some of the twisty stuff ....I just had a look at the Topic Title - gee we did get a bit lost didn't we ??? heheheh Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/5255-xr6t-vs-xr8/page/5/#findComment-46180 Share on other sites

So the live axle Ford vs the IRS Commode???Interesting which vehicle has dominated eh? Guest Bulging Boss Guests Posted 28/08/03 12:47 PM Share Posted 28/08/03 12:47 PM Yeah but remember guys, when looking at the domination - it is the whole package that has won on the day. A single factor such as the rear end can't support an argument for or against the car as a whole. Therefore, you can't simply decide that live axle is better than IRS based on winning at competition!Dave, I think the multitude of different opinions that have been expressed in this thread can only lead to the conclusion that you should go with whichever you feel comfortable with! You simply need to weigh up the note v handling v performance equation alongside the price v practicality issues. Each car has its own strengths and weaknesses in all five areas!!Dave, I like the sound of your car. I have been looking for a straight, manual EF/EL for a while. What modifications have you made for what horsepower/kw? Are you planning on selling it when you get the BA II? I may be interested. Are you sh*t stirring? Now that you are looking at a sedan there is a larger price difference between the two. You really need to drive both but l would prefer the driveability of the 8 if you can get it for just a few grand more.
