I've been thinking an XR8 sedan would be best....anyone got any points about the XR6T sedan vs. the XR8 sedan??

Dave.

Simple free market economics dicate that you will get better value for money with an XR8 over and XR6T

The Turbo is racing out the door so there is very little in the way of dealer discounts

The XR8 is in the peculiar position where it is priced more than the Turbo with similar performance but it is also priced closely to the GT which takes most of its sales,

therefore dealers have a lot of XR8 floor stock that they would LOVE to sell at the right price

That in mind there is more chance of getting a better trade in price, factory options of dealer stuff such as a Protection pack (mudflaps, bonnet guard, floor mats etc)

The XR8 is a lot of car for a reasonable mount of money!

Agree with you there Plonky re: basic market forces. I wandered through a couple of Ford dealers 2 or so months back, and I was surprised at how many XR8s they had in stock, not just in the showroom, but in the dealer holding yards as well.

Whilst I'm fortunate enough to be able to get fleet discount, they offered me zero discount on the T, but AT LEAST $5K on the XR8......and that was straight-up, before I did any sort of half-decent negotiation. I'm sure that non-fleet buyers could get virtually the same deal on the XR8, especially if you offered to purchase one that was already in the car.

As soon as I have the cash, I'll be in there for one I hope!!!

Given the cost of holding cars in stock, dealers work as much on turnover as they do on margin, so if the XR8s are not selling quickly, its better for the dealer to sell at a small margin, than to not sell at all and thus earn zero margin & have cash tied up in stock. If anyone is considering an XR8 but is put off by the price difference over the Turbo, put the hard word on your local dealer....you may be surprised at what you can negotiate!

so you agree that the XR8 is the pick of the sedans as well as the utes??

I left out the important fact that I get Employee Discount. so this taken into account, would that affect your decision??

can anyone give me any examples of XR6T vs. XR8 sedan/utes drags out on the road?? I mean it's all well and good that motoring writers can squize 2/10ths of a second out of a turbo on a nice sticky drag strip, with prefect launches, etc. but in the real world most people won't rev their car up off the line to get that perfect launch, so it might be that the XR8 has better rolling start times.....any thoughts on that??

I lined up a guy from work in his auto XR6T with my auto XR8 and they were absolutely side by side up to 160 before we backed of. We did that twice. In a traffic light grandprix whoever would get the jump from the start would win. They are that closely matched. Manuals might be a different story as the XR8 manual has a lower diff ratio but I guess in a race between two manuals whoever gets the best launch would probably win.

Thanx Venom, that's the kind of info I'm after - really world drags....

I believe the manual XR8 would beat a manual Turbo. the XR8's first gear is lower the turbo and it also has a much nicer change (partularly 2nd - 3rd) then the Turbo. The XR8 does have 3.23 diff gears, where as the turbo has a lower 3.45 set of gears which could make a difference...nothing a set of 3.7 couldn't fix :-P

Fordboy1981,

In your original post in this thread you said you were sick of carrying your freeloading mates around. Ute's don't stop that. Instead of carrying your freeloading mates around, you end up always helping them move, and carting all their sh!te to the tip. No matter what, your freeloading mates always find ways to be freeloading mates.

I hear ya mate. I had the same prob. What you have to do is give them a swift kick in the gonads and tell them :spit: off!

Phew, I needed That...

Sorry that is just one thing that gets on my nerves

Here is another real-world scenario (closed raod of course...).

Mine was a standard T at the time (manual) with the centre muffler removed and a unifilter ram pod (shielded from the engine bay) lined up against an XR8 manual - standard I assume.

Start was similar and I basically drove away from him by about one full car length until we backed off. I was stoked - he wasn't. Imagine if I meet him again now with the mods..... he wouldn't be impressed at all. The one car length would probably be four or five!

How can you say yours was stock but you go on to say that the centre muffler was removed and you had a rampod. That does not make it stock. I assume if yours was stock that car length you pulled on him would not have happened.
