XR8 delivery times will be quicker and the difference in handling isn't as obvious as some people think, after driving both in day to day driving you will barely feel the difference unless you hit the racetrack. Off idle torque and exhaust note takes the cake. When you hear the Boss at 5700 rpm you should know which one to buy, especially if you have the windows down. And the gearboxes are stronger in the XR8's as well, manual and auto.

also, have you guys noticed any problems with the LEAF SPRUNG LIVE REAR AXLE????

handling/ride wise.

Dave.

Dave,

there are clamps that help stop axle-tramp ...about $65 ... well worth it ... makes the ride firmer and helps stop vibrations certain speeds that come with the leaf springs ....

as far as the live-axle ... all the more reason to not want to be nose heavy ... oops me being biased again ..

(the only good V8 is an all-alloy one  )

thanx guys, this is really good info....you can't beat personal opinions from actual owners, keep it coming...

also I found the weights of the utes if anyone is interested...

XL Cab Chassis - 1545kg

XLS Cab Chassis 1-toner - 1525kg

XLS Cab Chassis sport - 1505kg

XL 1-toner - 1700kg

XL standard - 1680kg

XLS 1-toner - 1705kg

XLS sport - 1685kg

XR6 - 1690kg

XR6T - 1755kg

XR8 - 1800kg

these are the standard figures from ford, so I would expect these to be a little too heavy. for memory the guys from ZOOM, they weigh bridged their turbo ute and it was like 100kg UNDER what ford quoted....so I donno...

anyhoo, keep up the info guys...

l would go for the XR8 for its engine note, the bulge and better manual box (assuming you are going manual). If you want an auto then its more of a lineball decision.

If you are going to tow the 8 will be better also.

yeah I wouldn't get anything BUT a manual!! and yeah I will be doing a bit of towing....

so far, I think it's going to an XR8....

you know how you tend to make a decsion in your mind BEFORE you start asking questions, well it turns out I was right.....hehehe....

OOOOOOK, so you guys think I'm a bit wack after THAT comment!

hi fordboy

I have both utes in white with 18's, xr6t auto and xr8 manual

I can tell you which one I prefer to drive, and I drive them both everyday!

the xr8t anyday, and that's not because I am a v8 type of guy, actually I generally like turbo fours and imports. like some else here said the intake noise up around 500rpm is just insane!!

also the T does handle a little bit better, but the 8 is far more comfortable ride.

it does feel harsh over any bumps in the road and is perfect for long distance driving!!

the manual geabox in it is miles ahead of the xr6t gearboxes(even though mines an auto I have driven two

manuals)

the only thing about the v8 I had to get used to was on take off, it generally will not roll off without some throttle which is weird for such a beautiful engine(you will stall it a few times getting used to it)

I cant say enough about the 8 but that's just my opinion and the traction in both cars amazes me constantly

as I used to have a vs Late model camira ute and it used to break traction all the time, but both these cars grip like hell. :)

by the way, just for the record I have now modified both cars.

the xr6t has a unichip fitted to it, dynoed at 230kw at the treads.

but just recently (three weeks ago), I fitted a supercharger kit to the xr8t and holy f**k it goes now,

309kw at the treads!! :) dynoed at cnj motorsport in brisbane. it is now the most amazing car I have ever

driven.

very cheap mod for so much power fordboy, maybe for the future for you.

anyway hope this helps

thanx guys for your help!!

but don't stop the opinions though :-)

$1100 difference, more KW more torque, sounds heaps better than any turbo ever will, similar fuel use, will tow better, better manual gearbox, sexy bonnet, enjoy the 8 man!! what's killing the sedan war is the 6 grand price difference and better handling of the "T" also its apparent cheap and easy modability, good luck!!
