Maybe a silly question but, the AU you loaned did you pay for it?

Have dropped it off and they reckon it's fuel as there are no errors on computer and it is on the latest software already.

They think I've had a bad batch of Optimax or Ultimate and it has blocked the injector(s) causing the pinging.

Am going to put trailer on and go down and take one of them for a ride this weekend cause it's pretty bad so will update later.

Took it in on Sat with trailer on and got one of the guys to come with me. Definitely pinging so am dropping in tomorrow to have the software removed and then put back in again.

Sounds a lot like most Windows operating systems to me.......

If this doesn't fix then it sounds like there is a problem with the actuators(?), not too sure on these things though, and they can be replaced.

Just want it fixed now as it can't be doing any good to engine.

Unfortunately there is a huge bug in the Ford software and the windows analogy is pretty right. There are seemingly a lot of workshop diagnostic units that are not "reading" the ECU and BCM properly. Ford US, for some strange reason, are the ones trying to fix it and get the software operating properly.

Ford_Power,

Not really, pings on a "static" throttle under a bit of load, plant foot a few pings then comes good (like only a turbo can!), but if you sit on a static throttle it will ping continuously.

It does seem to be getting worse as well as it now idles rough when warm, never to the point of stalling though.

Turbo6man,

Interesting, I've said they can keep it until it's sorted so hopefully the reload will fix it, if not.........

cheers

vik351> it's not a matter of which dealers you can trust so much as pot luck whether their WDU will "correspond" with your in-car modules - some seem to work with some cars and not others while the reverse is also true - my only advice to anyone who has a semmingly ECU or BCM related problem is to try different dealers' machines if possible and hopefull one will "see" the problem -

rjn> Sometimes the "flashing" doesn't work because the WDU "thinks" the latest upgrade is already installed even though it may not have been. Until the software is sorted you can only follow my advice above and try different places and hopefully get one that will work properly.

If you can't get satisfaction with a known definite problem insist on a new ECU - this is about the only way the dealer (and the customer) can be sure the latest version software is installed and functioning. You might even suggest to the dealer to try one out of another (new) vehicle in the yard before ordering a new ECU for yours.

Turbo6man, you seem to know a lot about the Ford ECU. Can you tell me why Ford changed the ECU itself as a running change, just to clarify I mean a hardware upgrade not a software upgrade? The reason I ask is I have a July build car my friend who did the PD at the dealership said I have one of the old ECU's. Any info would be greatly appreciated. :beerchug:

OK, here we go,

You will never guess......

THERE WAS A LIFTER MISSING ON ONE OF THE VALVES!

On the rear cylinder (6?) one of the inlet valves did not have a lifter therefore the valve had never been used. Was worse when cold because it tried to chuck more fuel in but couldn't because the second vavle was closed.........

Am I unlucky or what?

Anyway, got some work to do so will come back with out come etc later.
