You need to remove the change over relay that switches the low off and the high on. Or you can install a jumper from the signal side of the hi relay so i powers up the low relay but this will cause the lights to dip momentarily (possibly)

Pity, because hi beam looks pathetic after the HIDs

Anyone suggest a good non HID bulb for the Hi beam

Lol, I thought the same thing when I installed mine - you can see the difference in the pics in the OP.

I don't think you will find a set of halogens that will rival the HID bulb mate. The best ones I had were Raybrig Bulbs out of Japan, can't find the buggers over here though dammit...

That's why mine are still sitting in the garage...having them flicking on and off when switching between high and low wouldn't do them much good either I wouldn't imagine.

Contemplating Luke's concept of bridging the relays, but haven't had a chance (or couldn't be bothered)

Luke that's exactly what I was thinking of doing but someone pointed out that the HIDs take a while to fire up. Is that something you just have to live with?

They do take a few seconds to reach full intensity. The lamps i have im my Rallye 4000's on my Rangie took aprox 25secs to reach full light the first time.

The more they are used the less time they take to readh full power. Once the lights have been on and up too temp (and full output) if you have to dip you lights they

will take less then a second to come back to full power.

If you set your lights up as i described your main headlights will stay on full power and only you aux lights will dip when you turn off high beam

The wiring in a BA/BF would need to be modifed so that the original Low beam filament stays on when the "high" beam is turn on. This should only mean a relay swap or possibly a jumper wire.

When you turn the high beam on all you are basically doing is turn on the AUX lamps which because the arent mulit focal reflector with throw a massive amount of light out.

Luke :spoton:

DO NOT USE THIS MOD, USE THE DIODE MOD POSTED LATER IN THE THREAD

I went the relay route.

You need two per side, one is hooked up to the lo beam wire the other to the Hi, I have attached a diagram to show how I wired it up.

Good work 72, is there a noticeable dip in the main beam or are the relays quick enough that you don't pick it?

Just looking at your wiring you could also just run a wire from the high beam side of the switch to the +ve signal side of the relay and you wouldn't need the second relay. The current draw for a 35w hid is around 3 amps (once hot.) the do spike slightly higher on start up be a 35amp relay is more than capable. :beerchug:

They are 30A relays so all should be good on that side.

There is no flicker that I can see, but there is no soft off any more and it takes slightly longer to turn off as relay coils hang on for a bit after the power is switched off.

Thought about using the one relay or even just a jumper wire a cross the OE plug , but as I dont know whats hanging off the end of the circuit and was not sure what the effect of having the lo-beam line powered up by the hi-beam and Vice-versa , I thought this would give the least chance of burning the car to the ground.

Got my kit today, thanks Pat!

Stupid question, when installing the Helligkeit HIDs which way does the little silver metal piece that surrounds the bulb need to face? My guess is down to stop light reflecting off the lower part of the reflectors and glaring oncoming drivers?
