Do you get this in every gear?

Is it when you accelarate, or at constant speed?

There have been past threads on vibration issues, but not related to rattle.

just had the ute looked at, semms to be some play in the timing chain tensioner. they rekon I should replace the tensioner, chain and guides, and someone else said to do the gears. not sure what to do.

any opinions?

maybe go an atomic full long engine setup? this is my 2nd choice, just money stoping me.

Considering you wanna push for more power in the future mate you might as well re-build the one you have, to replace the guides and chain you need to strip the front of the engine anyway, so you might as well pull the thing out and re-build. You'll be looking at around $250 or so for the tensioner and rail guides, haven't bought a chain recently so I'm not sure on that price. The labour will be a killer on them though

this is off the top of my head, I forget.

chain is 160, tensioner is 120, lh guide is 100, rh guide is 140, crank sprocket 80, cam sprockets 480 each

was gonna do the work my self so not worried about labour costs.

thinking about just replacing the tensioner and see what happens.

dotn really have the time to get my engine rebuilt, that's why I was looking at the atmoic long engine, that way only a couple days down time.

dose it sound like a lifter noise,if so value guides in the head, had a noise in my xy at that rpm thought it was a lifter,so replaced cam and lifters didn't fix the problem.Spoke to a head specialist and if the gudies are floged that's the rpm range they make the noise. He replaced the guides noise gone.Cheers Nick

just pulled the ute apart to replace the tensioner, but when pulled apart found it is the guide not the tensioner, well there is play in it so I am guessing that is the problem for it all.

I must say it was a *beep* of a job pulling the chain cover off. couldnt have done it with out a manual, it made it a little esier.
