Tramlining

Am I the only one experiencing very obvious tramlining? My XR6 (with 17" wheels) seems to follow every corrugation and rut on the road. I mostly do city driving. It's especially bad when braking on an uneven surface.

I've seen a few lines on this website regarding dodgy wheel alignment. Could this be the problem?

Cheers.

More than likely tyre wear. The more they wear the more they find every little nook and cranny.

I used to have it bad in my old EB with 17" Yokahamas, I switched to Nankangs and problem solved. I wouldn't of thought Dunlops would have this problem being a premium tyre, try rotating your tyres (front to back, not around and around! ) and then get a w/a.

What about tyre pressure?? I get it more often when tyre pressures are a little too low - used to be quite bad sometimes in the old VX commie, as my front left tyre was always losing pressure more quickly than the rest

There's gotta be something wrong.

I'm on stadard 17's and rubber and one of the thing that has impressed me most about my T is the LACK of tramlining.

Tracks dead straight on the highway, points in very nicely, lots of good steering feedback and a good bum steerer.

For the price, probably about the best I've driven.

Have a play with the pressures as the car can be very responsive to this.

Too low pressures can be particularly detrimental.

And.....don't put too much faith in your typical servo pressure gauge. Get a decent one from your local aout place to live in the glovebox.

Maybe start with something like 36 PSI all round and go from there.

Things to remember. Increase in pressure = increase in grip over the opposite end.

Let me know if you want more info and I'll do a bit longer technical bit.

Mackthe...

gents,

thanks for your replies. I am running 30PSI in all tyres, so might up the pressure and see how I go.

Cheers

30 seems really low, rabbit. Mine are over 40 all round (from dealer), 3000k and no tramlining at all.

Up the PSI and see how she goes ...
