I voted for the people that drive less than 100km/h on the F3. Most of the F3 is only 2 lanes and when cars are traveling slower than trucks I think that's when accidents happen. Most people get frustrated when trucks are in the fast lane (me included), but when you think about it, they are getting paid to make delieveries and when they get slowed down by other cars they get frustrated too.

Yeah trucks in the fast lane on the F3 and slowing everyone else down so they can make there deliveries does ring a bell. That would be the 30 car pile up caused by one of them on the Mooney Mooney bridge a few years back.

I hate it when people sit 80km/h in the right hand lane.. this doesn't happen often once left the radius of the CBD though. I found on my way to Bendigo or Swan hill once your out of the CBD and outer suburbs people that are wanting to do slower than the posted speed limit gladly get out of your way.

Im also one that does lots of freeway driving and personally believe 100km/h is too safe and freeways should be 120km/h (But that's never going to happen and im sure that's not everyone opinion!)

IB, WOULD GET THE F@*K OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE!!! Zap didn't actually BLAME the police, just stated that it is them that hand out most fines, never stated they benefit from the revenue raised!

We are asked our opinions, we answered them, we don't need you being the local authority on what we can and can't think or believe. Why is it that ANYTIME the police get mentioned AT ALL, you get all stroppy and come flying in stirring SH!T?

If you look through all the threads, the crap mainly starts after one of your "informative threads".

What is the difference between a truck/caravan to an L plater or an old gran you mentioned or even you or me? the truck and caravan CAN"T get up the hill any quicker so most people accept that, the L platers are under law to keep to 80k's, therefore we accept that, BUT if they sit in the RIGHT lane then that is when people get annoyed. It is the same when anyone else is sitting in the right lane doing 20-30k's under the limit that people crack the sh!ts whether that is bus/truck/caravan/you/me/L-P plater whatever, as you of all people should know, KEEP RIGHT UNLESS OVERTAKING, the signs are there for everyone to see, so, why don't the police fine people for that offence? Cause it doesn't help with the SPEED KILLS offensive the government wants us all to believe.

How many accidents are caused because as mentioned above someone is travelling DANGEROUSLY below the speed limit which causes traffic to bank up and stop and THEN because some moron isn't paying attention he nails the car in front? HEAPS, that's how many, we hear about them all the time on the radio every day.

end rant,

suppose I can expect my warning from the mods after this one!

Wow, good topic Butto, can't see this dying soon!

I voted for the latter, but am in agreeance with both options.

Obviously the parties involved in deciding on speed limits have deemed a particular stretch of road to be safe enough to drive at no more than 100km/h, and anyone in any vehicle driving at a faster than that speed is deemed to be unsafe.

The drivers that drive at 80km/h on a 100km/h designated road are not being unsafe, they have made a decision to travel at that speed because they are not comfortable with driving faster for whatever reason. I do however that they do cause unrest in other drivers that are comfortable driving at 100km/h and wish to overtake to do so. I do believe that this causes a volatile situation with the following driver becoming agitated and not concentrating on the task at hand.

I for one am a confident driver, and am rarely off put by speed/weather/road conditions, as I have gone through a few safe driving courses, and am comfortable sitting at the speed limit if I deem it to be safe for myself, my vehicle, my passengers and others on the road. I also understand that others may not and, where possible, I expect those drivers to keep left and let me pass.

I for one appreciate IB's input, as he is on the side of the law which is in control. We can all speculate and put our opinions forward, but he has a big book (I'm assuming :gtfo2:) that has the right answers in them.

Cheers

Dan

And I look forward to Zaps reply at some time, though more fines are now infact handed out by council rangers and fixed speed cameras courteous of the RTA. That is the true source of revenue raising in our State.

I also think your rant was healthy enough to avoid any warnings as it promoted a strong ongoing discussion in my view.

:stupid:

Keep the emotion out of it and nobody will get hurt!

After just recently clocking up a few thousand km's on NSW roads I must say that the fixed speed cameras are a fantastic option to catch out all the inattentive drivers. Anyone that gets caught deserves to. Kind of like a wet paint sign....it's not like you weren't warned.

As for the poll, I really don't care what speed people do as long as it's consistent. The bastards that feel the need to slow down on double lines or when there's oncoming traffic before speeding up again in overtaking lanes make you want to reach for the RPG. ...and then there's the Expensive Daewoo bogans that see the Ford badge and feel the need to do all that they can to prevent you getting in front of them. :omg:
