Hey all,

I was looking to upgrade my wheels and tyres form 17" to 18". thus was wanting a new set of tyres. Which ones would you reccomend? I was recomended the Pirelli P6 four for the Back (235/40R18 95H XL) and a set of "Nankang's" for the front. Mainly concerned with the back tyres, I realise that nankang's cant be the best of quality! it would be great if anyone could recomend any other tyres or provide info on these!!

thanx in advance!

who is recommending different tyres front and back?? that is bloody ridiculous. Nankangs on the front? great idea....for safety.....so that car might have better traction in a straight line but will understeer more and have less front end grip. great idea!

Do yourself a favour and pick up the latest MOTOR Mag, there is a big tyre test worth a read.

A brand name alone is no guarantee of a good tyre.

Yer, I wasnt too keen on the different tyres for the front and different for the back...didnt think that would be a good thing. thanx erko.

Regarding the Nankang's has anyone heard of them, any comments?

I had a read of the Wheels tyre test which happened a couple of months back and although they gave the Goodyear Eagle the award, I thought the "accelera" was very good tyre seeing it cost less than half the goodyer.

Any info would be much appreciated.

thanx,

nankangs belong on the back !!! :P

worst case, good tyres on the front, sh*tty ones on the rear

that way its oversteer rather than understeer

what is your budget?

you can get some Federal 595s (not the semi-slick version) for about $270 each (last time I checked)

they are good tyres :) and leave big dirty black lines... none of this grey lines ... (and before somebody whinges about hooning, the skids were at barbagallo raceway)

What sort of price are you looking at

"no name " (for want of a better term) tyres that are actually good are MAXXIS MA-Z1, Kumho KU31 and Falken FK452

then (ie. not exactly cheap) I reckon the Bridgestone RE001 as well as the Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric and Michelin PP2 are all very good tyres.

I run Yokohama Advan A13 which is the EVO X stock tyre and they are good but not easy to find.

I have the MAXXIS MA V1 245/40/18s on my car at the moment and if you look down through the tyre threads theres 1 called '18inch tyre woes' that's mine where the tyre is 'falling apart' the tread is coming away from the carcass both rears more so on 1 side. is there any big difference between the Z1s and V1s Erko?

I believe the maxxis maZ1 is the good one, bad reports on the v1.

people over here seem very happy with the sumitomo htrII's and the marangoni mythos at the moment.

MAZ1's are a softer tyre with a better tread pattern and greater grip...

I have had MA V1s on my XR8 and they were pretty good for wear... bit noisy...

I then put MA Z1s on my XR8 and they are so much better than the V1's you cant really compare... Much better grip, still a little noisy and great for wear... If you are gonna go Maxxis, get Z1...
