I want to change the air filter as im fairly sure its quite as I used to average under 12L/100K's on a light foot and now its averaging something like 15.5 . plus its about the only mod I can get away with without having cops on my back as im still on P's. I was looking around and noticed pretty much everyone has the K&N ones but I found a simota one which claims to have higher flow than the K&N ones and is cheaper. being slightly jewish, normally id jump straight on to the cheaper option but thought id double check first, has anyone got the simota one and can vouch for it? or is there a reason everyone goes the K&N? I know air filters dont do all that much and this is a fairly unimportant question but any help is appreciated.also, while im at it I thought id change the snorkel. saw a fair few people have strapped on a secondary intake but im too lazy/chimp like to be able to pull it off without throwing a tantrum and smashing up the whole airbox. can anyone whose changed to the bigger typhoon snorkels tell me if they noticed a decent change/if its worth doing? sorry for all the questions I know this looks a little like an essay. that is all for know I promise. cheers. K&N's regularly pop up on ebay for around $75K&N is tried and tested (as you noted with the majority of us using them)Hanra (from memory) had a write up in here somewhere on exactly how to set up the 2nd intake, fairly simple if you can keep your patienceDanPS: the worsening fuel economy may simply indicate that you're enjoying yourself!! Guest Guests Posted 21/11/08 06:37 AM Share Posted 21/11/08 06:37 AM 2nd F6 snorkel & a better filter are definitely worth doing. Simota are a pretty good filter so if it's lots cheaper go for it, otherwise stick with something that's proven

PS. love the emoticons available (in case you couldnt already tell haha).

Definately worth doing the airfilter or airbox, but IMO getting a custom tune would be the go as it will give you better fuel economy and more power and the cops wont know you have done it!! I'm no handy man..only an avearge bloke with common sense (and one who never rushes into anything until I've had a good think about it - procrastination is my best ally!) The larger upper intake I got straight of Ebay and went in with no dramas. The lower snorkel I bought from a Ford dealer for around $80.00 (bit expensive for a piece of hard rubber) Using the instructions and dimensions that can be found on another part of this site for cutting a hole in the lower part of the airbox for the lower snorkel, it was reasonbly simple. With the right tools and patience, it was pretty easy as long as you don't go at it like a bull at a gate. The dimensions (and accompanying pictures) as mentioned earlier, if followed accurately, were absolutely spot on. I also added the K&N filter. As this is the only mod I intended to do and haven't done anything else, I have found that my fuel economy has improved and the throttle response is improved. I haven't accurately quantified each improvement but it definitely isn't the classic placebo effect IMHO. For me it was worth the effort.
bluey1 Member 68 Member For: 16y 16d Gender: Male Location: Melbourne Posted 23/11/08 09:25 AM Author Share Posted 23/11/08 09:25 AM yeh ive always wanted to muck around and get my hands on when I got my first car. Just purchased the ford workshop manual on cd off ebay. Probably be pretty useless atm as I dont have that much know how but it was only 5 buks so I figured what the hell. Purchased the K&N air filter as well and thatll go in as soon as it gets here. Gota head to supercheap and get some oil sometime as well. Car was meant to be serviced 5k ago and have the oil changed but now I figure I may as well do it myself and save the couple of hundred ford are probably going to charge me for the service. Also purchasing the larger snorkel off the turbos and xr8s and it should all be done for a bit of fun before I leave on holidays. 2nd F6 CAI is first up on the list when I get back hopefully nice and relaxed so ill have a bit more patience haha. Just trying to hang a around for a cheap second hand one off ebay. Probably just end up running out of patience and grabbing one from ford as well. How much does the flash box and tune go for these days and is it really worth doing know with such little mods or better left for the serious mods?
