I just saw this also.

I guess that means they are going to an alloy block? Lighter but I still like the cast iron one.

I thought I was going to have a clasic on my hand with this model being the last inline 6 - guess I'll just have to upgrade one more time - damn :ladysman:

I don't think they will go alloy block, they don't need too, and the cast iron block costs them bugger all to make. In reality the weight difference wouldn't be any more than 15-20 kg, as the only structural part the engine uses that isn't alloy is the block itself, everything else is alloy. I think they will move the cat alot closer to the engine to fix the cold start emissions problem, which will result in a quicker warm up time for the cat resulting in fewer emissions. They have said injection, calibration and exhaust are the areas they will work on, and they can get Euro 4 without direct injection which would have been nice, but requires a whole top end redesign to fit the injectors inside the head. Big $$$.

Liquid LPG injection should make an appearance.

There's a few good reasons for sticking with the I6, not the least of which was america lowering the number of available V6 units for sale to us, and the cost of the V6 in the first place versus redeveloping the I6.

Most importantly for this forum though is the fact that the V6 turbo doesn't fit in the FG architecture :ladysman:

The lower Aussie dollar would have been a factor too, the $1000 cost saving of the V6 Vs I6 would have dissapeared with the dollar below 65 c. It was over 75 c when the decision was made last year.

that's great news, finally ford have woken up. They would be stupid to delete the best engine in their line up in the entire world, that engine is up there with the BMW I6.

Hopefully they don't decrease displacement.

Most importantly is that the Australian worker keeps their job.

Bring on direct injection!
