I can't really recommend you on a particular oil, but I have been using 10-40 in mine and its been ok, but I don't give it a hard time when the oil is cold...

I use castrol edge 10W60 in my F6.

Do you recon it would be better for the gears to use a 0W40?

I've been told by a Castrol tech (among others in the know) that a 60W oil is ideal for a boosted I6 application (including 300+kw).

Take that with however many grains of salt as you wish.

I don't know whether or not that recommendation took the "weak point" of the B series oil pump gears into consideration though.

thanks for the post Pat, my god I did a good job didnt I? everyone I show the photos to just cringe and cant believe it. But it was a good excuse to go all out on the car! cant wait to get it back off you mate

How did you go senna? Did you have a peak at the ported housing

Haven't pulled it apart yet mate - looking after the rest of the motor for now!

A new pump and billet gears will set you back around $1150 at retail price through Atomic. Not sure of anyone else that does the high flow work though. Can't say I've looked into finding anyone else though...

Also, you might as well pull the engine out to replace the oil pump, its probably possible with the engine still in the car, but it would be a PITA

Kinda dear, it's only $350 for a Boss pump with billet gears and a new machined housing from melling. Someone might wanna ship one over for them to reproduce :beerchug: .....

That pump would most likely be used on the 4.6L motors too though right? having such a large customer base would bring the cost down. The 4L is a small market in comparison IMO

They have the ability and tooling to design develope & produce quite quickly and cost effectivly. The pumps are different in 2v/3v & 4v varients. My new engine actually runs the melling 3v pump as its the only one capable of supplying enough oil for the engine and the piston squirters.

The built motor I bought did exactly that to the oil pump gears..

Damage was not limited to the oil pump drive but:

The timing chain sprocket on the crank, possible damage to chain, damaged the timing chain guide plastics (like metals been dragged through).

The head is a complete throw away, The Cam journels are all stuffed.. If they ran cam bearings, it would be ok, but since there's no cam bearings, its chewed the head out.

The engines still sitting in my garage, Awaiting for someone to offer me cheap kostetki gears :)
