If the quarter is you ultimate goal, then the 1st and 2nd gear ratios of a six speed trans would make getting off the line more of a challenge. Leigh ran a 10.4 with a 2 speed Powerglide and I can tell you he wouldn't have had too many issues getting off the line with a 1.8:1 first gear ratio. I'm an absolute fan of manuals, feels like I have more control over the car..
