Hey Fellas,

been a ford driver for the last year now, I currently own a 03 xr6 na. in three months I finally get my full license, the p plate restrictions dont allow me to drive a T. well long story short I will be upgrading to a turbo

I would like to spend some $$$ on performace, what transmittion do you recommend 6 speed or the 4 speed? is there a big difference performace wise?

cheers...

There is a farking HUUUUGE difference. If you can afford a 6 speed then get one.

Lol @ Dillz

Yes the 6spd is a much better box, but you get a better car to go with it - BF has larger brakes, stonger valve springs, and depending on the build date they have the stronger bottom end. Also the Engine management is more complex and allows for a bit more tuning I beleive

I think it depends on your goal/s. If the quarter is you ultimate goal, then the 1st and 2nd gear ratios of a six speed trans would make getting off the line more of a challenge. Leigh ran a 10.4 with a 2 speed Powerglide and I can tell you he wouldn't have had too many issues getting off the line with a 1.8:1 first gear ratio.

my 6spd has copped a belting & its still changing away. the 4spd can be built tough but of coarse it cost. it might be a better option if you do intend to do 1/4 work but like senna said theres advantages in goin to the 6spds. the bfs built after 06/06 have better bottom end as well as other goodies.

so guys.. whats with all the hype about the ZF 6 speed?? its almost enough to make me go out and buy one!! having only driven the 6 speed manual I have no idea.. but if all goes well I maybe up for a BF series soon enough.

So wats so good about the ZF?? I'm an absolute fan of manuals, feels like I have more control over the car..
