It fit to just before the 1st knuckle on my little finger so armed with the highly calibrated measuring finger i was able to determine the correct ring size.My advice Dan would be to buy a "nice" ring to propose with, then IF she say's yes take her and he Kesh you have saved up to a jeweller and let her pick the actual ring. Oh and also you were a fairly mint looking chickadee (suppose that should've given it away!)Back OT; maybe the old 'slip over and bump into with a tape measure trick' eh? Lifetime Members 7,935 Member For: 21y 9d Gender: Male Location: Sydney Posted 03/05/09 09:26 AM Share Posted 03/05/09 09:26 AM Mate I married an accountant, so I was prevented on spending too much money on the rings.I proposed without a ring and then made an appointment with the Jeweler for her to choose the type of ring she wanted. You do not need a ring to propose, it is better to let HER CHOOSE.We got both wedding bands and the engagement ring for under $3k. The old rule was a months salary, but that would never have been approved by the war and finance minister

Also got the sister to check it out to see if I was on the right track, got the thumbs up and walked away with it all for about $4500. the wedding ring was another $1300 and I got two bands for myself in case I lost one (VERY IMPORTANT!)I used to wear my ring to work (electrician) but don't anymore as it scalloped my finger once when I was backing down off a ladder - very fu(king painful. Having said that I was actually naked when I proposed, so I guess it doesn't get much more theatrical than that! We'd always sort of talked about the type of ring she wanted; a friend put me in touch with a wholesaler/manufacturer and the ring I ended up getting was not only PERFECT (according to my wife), but also worth quite a bit more (valuations are based on retail value it seems as opposed to wholesale. Or something. I learned this at insurance time) than I'd actually paid for it.As for the sizing - she used to keep her rings on the bedside table at her place. When she went off to the ladies' room, I grabbed one and slid it over my finger, remembering how far it went down. Then when I met with the manufacturer, he has all the sample sizing rings... we just slid it down my finger and when it stopped at the magic point I said yep that's the one. Not an exact science but it worked out pretty darn well I have to say.
