hey everyone,

just wondering if anyone can enlighten me as to what setups the utes run with the sound. do they run a seperate amp or is it integrated into the head unit? obviously no sub in them I would imagine due to lack of room, so whats the best way to get some more bass into the car? better speakers? is there some other way to connect an amp to these units without pulling it apart and soldering into the circuit board?

The Premium sound option allows you the normal bass, mid and treble settings, plus in addition it has a (7?) band equaliser which you can also crank up to get more bass, which I find necessary on some tunes on my Ipod. Obviously you're not going to replicate a seperate sub by doing that, so it depends on what you're after.

On a slightly different note, has anyone noticed that if you alter the fader either to the front OR the back, you seem to get a better sound than with it centered? I don't know what it is, but suspect that either the amplifier can send all it's grunt to 2 speakers instead of all 4, or that I have one or more speakers out of phase? Thoughts?

hey jas, I found out some info from another member on here who has a awesome set up and he told me that u need a digital processor , so that u dont need to pul it all apart. He gave me a couple of recommended ones. alpine PXE-H650 or rockford 360. im planning on using one of these for my custom stereo to put in.

This may depend on how serious you want to get with your sound, however I just had a monoblock amp wired up to power a sealed 10" sub to supplement the stock speakers (for now). I will at a later date swap out the factory speakers however I'll have them running off the stock deck. With the sub alone the improvement is extremely gratifying and more than enough to be cranked up at levels which are pretty bloody loud. That's without distortion or ear piercingly shrill high's.

If you're not after competition type sound or entering spl comps then I'd recommend an addition of a small sub at the very least. You might just be pleasantly suprised enough to leave it at that!

Yeh nolz,

that's all I am after mate, a bit better bass to add to the stock setup. What amp and sub did you install mate? did you include a line level converter?

I knew what I was after in terms of sound so opted for a small 10" (fast accurate punchy bass, for rock/pop, as opposed to Hip Hop or Rnb). I also didn't want it to take up too much space as I'd prefer to have it free to put stuff behind the seats if need be, and to not compromise seating position.

I ended up with a Clarion 10" slim line sub - $150 subwoofer and a 300w rms Clarion Monoblock - $155 amp and an Alpine Line level converter. Just finished building and carpeting the box this evening and have come back from a test cruise ;) The box is very compact and delivers exactly what I was after. An improvement is to be had, however that should be sorted with a new pair of door speakers and some dynamat.

That was about $70 without haggling...I figured things have become so much more affordable since I last looked, it wasn't worth the effort over a couple of bucks :P You can get ones for $25 or so however I've used them in the past and have had them fail. This unit is made in Japan and seems to appear much more of a premium product. With the system sounding as good as it does, I like to think that it was worth the $70 :)

I have been looking at an alpine amp/subwoofer combo for $500 as the amp has a high level input to bring in straight off the speakers as well as the normal rca inputs, or just using a line level converter then straight into the rca's to eliminate a bit of the noise. any thoughts on that setup?
