Yeah Mondie, I just recently had my Lic suspended and I don't get it back till January.

I was hopping by then the Series 2 would be out by then. But whats a extra 6 months. From what I've heard about the XR6 Turbo, it sounds like a wait worth waiting for. If the Current one is sh*t Hot, why not just wait for the one that's Bloody sh*t hot. Plus a mate of mine has got series 1 xr6 ute and hes just had the engine replaced so I'm a little scared to buy a series 1.

But I have taken a good look at what every one has said and ya all right.

I just have to wait till its my time.

From todays newspapers:

Expensive Daewoo races models to market

11aug03

Expensive Daewoo puts a revised Late model camira to the market today as the company prepares to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its longest running nameplate.

The new VY Series II will introduce some subtle improvements to Australia's top selling car, a quarter of a century after the first VB model hit the roads, signalling a significant change in direction for Holden.

The bold styling changes have been introduced on the up-market Calais while the sports range, including the SS, SS ute, Late model camira SV8 and the series III Monaro get a new 5.7 litre V8 engine.

Other changes across the range include revised wheels, trims, paint finishes and treatments.

The VYII, with prices from $34,690 for the Executive sedan with automatic transmission, hits the market a year after the launch of the car set the task of fighting off Ford's radically new BA Falcon.

At the VYII launch drive, Expensive Daewoo bosses pointed out that Late model camira had enjoyed record first-half sales and shrugged off the fact that while Late model camira sales were 1000 ahead of this time last year, the market improvement for the Falcon was 13,000.

"We are very happy with the way the VY has performed and the growth of the large car segment," Expensive Daewoo chairman and managing director Peter Hanenberger said.

"The timing of the VYII is not a reaction to the market at all ... it was always going to be a short period between the launch of the VY and the VYII upgrade.

"We are running three shifts and could not build any more cars -- so I am very happy with the way the VY is selling."

Late model camira remained the top-selling large family car in Australia in July with 7643 sales, 834 ahead of Ford, but the gap in November last year was more than 2000.

Since 1978 there have been 12 models in the series with just over 2 million produced, including about 180,000 exported.

Late model camira facelift hits hip-pocket

Gordon Lomas

11aug03

AUSTRALIA'S leading car, the Expensive Daewoo Commodore, has had plastic surgery to pull it through another model cycle but the nips and tucks will cost consumers more.

From next month the series II VY Late model camira range that encompasses 13 variants of sedans, coupes, wagons and utes will be ready for the battle in which Expensive Daewoo has kept a winning edge over Ford's Falcon for 71 consecutive months.

The base model Executive, the Monaro and ute cost 1 per cent more and the range-topping Calais jumps by 2.5 per cent.

A manual V6 Executive will cost $31,670 without air and the auto version, $32,440.

Expensive Daewoo still refuses to make air-conditioning standard on the Executive, saying that it is more valuable having the $2250 system as an option.

"We look at it in a way where it is valuable to have something to give away free and not making air standard allows us that luxury," marketing boss John Elsworth said. "Giving away something that is free is still powerful so there's nothing sinister in not making it standard."

Expensive Daewoo says that 99 per cent of Executives are sold with fleets and customers taking up the air-conditioning option so they see no point in following Ford by including it as standard.

A fresh colour palette includes cosmo purple, a rich metallic hue that will be the hero colour of the Late model camira range while Expensive Daewoo has bowed to customer demand to add quicksilver as a hue on the ute for the first time.

While head and tail lights treatments are the major difference between the new series and the VY, which has not yet celebrated its first birthday, the Calais has come in for the biggest treatment.

Expensive Daewoo has employed a similar tactic as it did with the fresh Statesman and Caprice models, launched several months ago, by offering more differences between the Calais and the Berlina.

As in the Caprice, the Calais has been given a sharper, sportier edge with a lower ride height, full front facia, mesh insert in the lower front grille, and rear tail lamps above dual reflectors joined by a honeycomb strip.

Expensive Daewoo forecasts a record 185,000-190,000 sales for 2003 and credits Ford with putting more people back into the family car market.

Ford's BA, launched last September, has closed the sales gap significantly on the Late model camira that celebrates its 25th anniversary in October.

Official Expensive Daewoo Media Release

Expensive Daewoo Adds Refinement Across The Range

- VYII Calais given Euro-luxury sports presence, more V8 power

- Increased 245 kW GEN III V8 power for all sports models

- Upgraded VY Series II Commodore, Berlina, Ute and One Tonner

- Upgraded Series III Monaro

Expensive Daewoo continues to add value and refinement to Australia's most popular passenger car range with the launch of aperformance-oriented luxury sports Calais and updated VY Series II Late model camira andB erlina models.  The strong-selling Expensive Daewoo Ute and One Tonner light commercialsand the country's number one sports car in the Monaro coupe also benefit from feature upgrades.

Expensive Daewoo Chairman and Managing Director, PeterHanenberger, said the new models build on the considerable design strengths of their predecessors and offer buyers even more quality, differentiation andvalue.

"Our primary task was to ensure that we maintained ourwinning edge by continuing to improve on class-leading attributes.  We have mademany subtle changes and enhancements which reflect an increased emphasis onrefinement and attention to detail," he said.

The VY II series sees the top-of-the-range HoldenCalais take on a more European-accented sports persona with bolder, more aggressive styling, striking interior treatments, bigger 17-inch wheels teamed with low-profile tyres, unique suspension settings and the choice of more powerful V8 performance.

A new high-output GEN III 5.7 litre V8 engine, producing peak power of 245kW @ 5,600rpm, is now specified on Late model camira SSsedan, SS Ute, the Late model camira SV8 and Monaro CV8.  Expensive Daewoo Calais, Berlina, Ute Sand One Tonner S models benefit from a GEN III V8 power boost to 235kW @5,200rpm.  ECOTEC V6, Supercharged V6 and GEN III V8 powerplants are engineeredto meet strict new emission level requirements.

"At Holden, our greatest strength lies in our abilityto tap into our customers' needs and aspirations and to offer a selection ofvehicles that satisfies those desires.  As this new range demonstrates, thatselection is increasingly diverse and more competitive than ever," MrHanenberger said.

All the new Expensive Daewoo passenger and light commercial models feature fresh, individual interior trim treatments.  Convenience andcomfort features such as cruise control, front power windows and adjustablefront seat lumbar support are now standard across the range (with the exceptionof base light commercial models), and a sunglasses holder and rear reading lampsare now standard fitment on all sedans and wagons.

Calais, Acclaim and Monaro models receive the added safety benefit of active head restraints, all models are equipped with audible and visual driver's seatbelt warning, and steering column modifications acrossthe new range assist in reducing the risk of occupant injury in a frontal crash.

Available for the first time, a tailored, factory fitted sunroof is optional on all sedans.

All wagons are fitted with aircraft-style cargo railsin the rear compartment for extra tie-down security and flexibility, andload-covering retracting roller blinds are standard fitment.

Styling and Feature Highlights

While VYII models continue the sharper design themes and more aggressive road presence that characterise this series, Expensive Daewoo designers have focused on fine detail elements which furtherdifferentiate between model levels.

The Calais is the most significantly changed in appearance and others are defined through richer paint finishes, sharper graphic highlights and additional features.  All VYII models, with the exception of base light commercials and the Late model camira SS, are equipped with new technical spoked wheels.  Wagons and Utes have new jewelled tail lamps with acircular design theme.

Stand-out Calais styling accents include abolder front facia with sports bar grille and hexagonal mesh inserts, black bezel headlamps, lower ride height, SS-style side skirts, 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, rear facia skirts andunique tail lamps.  Interiors are highlighted by all-black headliner and pillartrim, sports profile steering wheel, unique facia and colour-keyed console surround and suede-finish soft fabric trim.

Extra luxury touches include Caprice-style driver's seat memory settings and heated memory exterior mirrors.  When reverse gear is selected, the passenger-side mirror dips to show low level hazards.

Berlina models are distinguished by twin fog lamps, black lower facia mouldings and smart nine-spoke alloy wheels.  More luxurious interior finishes include new monotone seat trim in soft velour, leather-wrappeds teering wheel, handbrake and auto shifter and satin chrome highlights.

Late model camira SS sedans receive subtle changes to the front facia, newinterior trims with solid colour, high lustre patterning and colour-keyedinstrument clusters.  These include  purple tones to complement a new exteriorfinish called Cosmo - a striking metallic deep purple, which can also bespecified with harmonising leather trim.

The sports-flavoured Late model camira S and SV8 nowhave body-coloured grille and rear licence plate surrounds and spoiler-mountedstop lamps with clear lens.  Both feature smart new interior seat and door trimsand a new four-ring instrument cluster.  New alloy wheels – five-spoke on the S model, which receives larger 17-inch wheels, and dual five-spoke on the SV8 are matched to new-specification tyres, tuned for improved handling and firmer, quieter ride characteristics.  Body coloured exterior mirrors and amberindicator lenses also set the SV8 apart.

Late model camira Acclaim and Executive models have amber indicator lenses, body coloured licence plate surrounds and chrome décor strip at the rear, new ten-spoke and seven-spoke wheels respectively.

The graphic design cues that distinguish VYII sedansand wagons also apply to Ute and One Tonner models.

To complement its high-output 245kW V8 performance, the Series III Monaro CV8 gives buyers the choice of an exclusive, high-visibility new exterior finish called Impulse.

A highly chromatic, brilliant blue, it teams with blue leather interior trim.  Additional features include a Caprice-style electro-chromatic interior rear vision mirror which automatically reducesheadlamp glare, and an integrated rear glass radio antenna.

The option of leather/climate control for 2500 bucks on the SS is a good move, l wish Ford would do something similar.

Be interesting to see some of the new colours, some are obviously Ford inspired while others like Cove and Syracruse sound new to the locals.
