hi guys,

I've just taken my carryboy canopy off my ute but haven't got a hardlid yet. what's the story with leaving the tray open to the elements for a while. does too much rain/water in the tray cause any rust problems?

cheers, james.

Ford would of brought them out with harlids on all utes if they were worried about that.

If anything itll give it a good clean ...mine needs a good wash

It's all plastic so I can't see it causing any problems.

The only thing is the drain holes aren't very effective when stationary regardless of the vehicle being parked on flat ground or not. No problem once you drive off though!

Gees I'd hope not.. My new FG xr8 ute will never see the tarp on it ever.. Ford should be shot if a little rain in the back hurts it.. One thing I have seen is the floor slightly bowed up from sitting empty in the sun .. I have also seen holdens in a dealer that had the back up on ramps that had filled up to the top with water cause it couldn't get out the back..

I'll drill a few holes through the floor at the front straight away to fix this if they aren't already there otherwise it bubbles up through the bottom of your tool boxes where thaey are bolted to the tray

HArd lids are for girls.. My old man has one and we never use his ute for anything cause you can't fit it underneath.. Bet this upsets a few considering most here would have hardlids heheheeheeheheee

Cheers utemad

lol

I fit in to that category :banghead: The current ute doesn't see too much "utility" action so it's no drama...but yeah it is a pain in the arse if you want to carry around anything that's not flat!

Id like to be able to have a roller back on the ute and just use it as a giant tool box on wheels but I carry different size stuff every day so rules that out.. Be cool though get it on a remote but so you just press the remote as you walk up to the ute .. get what you want and press the button to close it .. Oh well dreams are free lol

cheers utemad

I had my hardlid off the back off my ute for about a month, during which it was exposed to rain then intense sun, rain, intense sun etc. (damn Cairns weather!) and I started to notice that the plastic was starting to lift in one of the corners, sort of like a large bubble or warp :omg: . I threw the hard cover straight back on.

It was a really hot day when I noticed it, and maybe the plastic had expanded because it was so hot, but unless you park undercover most of the time I would try and protect your tray with a soft cover at least.

I often take my hard lid off and on to put the bike or whatever in the back of the ute, and the plastic tub liner does warp a bit but who cares I say, no biggy IMO.
