Hey guys just wondering how hard the boat licence test is in NSW? Thinking about doing it. The old man has a boat sitting in the shed not getting any love so thought I might as well get off my arse this summer and make use of it. Little bit of water skiing and fishing is always good I reckon. So let me know your thoughts (if you have any!)

What sort of boat is it??

Thanks buddy.

If I showed you guys a photo you'd definatly laugh at me and my old man!

It was made in late 60's I think. It's pretty much a big tinnie with a 70hp outboard on the back. It pulls two donuts or knee boards. And it's got a little 5hp for fishing. Better than a dingy, but not by much!

They test is not to hard if you read the book. There are alot of rules and signals that you need to know and cant bluff your way through. I have my PWC licence and failed it once because I thought I could do it without reading the book.

as said you need to read the book.

pay attention to lights and the most important part of the test is on the cardinal markers.

you can pass with a few wrong in the first section but if you get the last ones wrong your screwed.

Its far too easy to get boat licenses. We have the Rec skippers ticket over here and even noobs with no ocean experience can hand over cash and get one..

If you dont have much boating experience I'd do a course or something just in case. I've seen it all too often. Nothing worse than being well out of sight of land when the wind picks up and some bloke and his kids have no radio and need help!

Thanks guys, yeah I'm a bit worried about remembering all the lights and markers. Never going to need to know them but it's all part of it. We just have a big open weir here. Plenty of room and very very few lights and signs. And don't worry Mat the open ocean is definatly not my thing! Tried it once and got big time sea sick! :spoton: Not fun!
