well I guess that maybe so, but I am sure if you ask simon a question he would answer it. 1 main thing about the c/v smashing is also the angles change when lowered. when I go racing I put stock springs back in. as the is issues with the shaft punching the c/v cage I believe. but someone who knows more shoudl be able to fill in this question.

Lowered cars have a tendancy to break CV's more because the shaft is actually pushed into the outer housing more, and the balls are closer edge of the inner star putting more strain in that area.

If you had a Custom made shaft shorter than the Standard one, you wouldnt have this problem..

As for how much shorter. That will need to be worked out..

Or, having a stronger inner star knuckle would also fix this..

I think auto owners have less likely chance of breaking a driveshaft compared to manual guys

They may charge a bit of labour, but it is fairly involved in changing the inners of a CV, especially since the rubber boots dont goto the full diameter of the CV, but rather there is a metal cover which needs to be creatively removed so you can put it back on.

I've had a idea of finding a rubber boot which goes to the full size of the cv, that way we dont need to worry about that metal cover no more. :)

Here is the new star inner next to my current one. Have a look at the wear pattern how it sits nicely in the middle. My car is running standard ride height. A lower car would have the wear marks towards the top side of the star inner.

Also take note of where the circlip cut away is on the standard one, compared to the albins one.. One might say correctly placing the cutout where the star is at its thickest point would also have a strength advantage

Also, this is the inside view of one of my CV housings, Once again, look at the wear mark is roughly centered. a lowered car would have this push in futher.

Open up a google search page, and type the following..

BA CV CAGE

and look at the first result... that's how easy it was :)

how are people going with the upgraded cv's from albins?

Also danny was exactly right with the lower cars putting stress on the egdes of the cage and star. I have one in bits on my desk at home and will post pics tonite. it is easy to see why they dont last with low cars.

If shortening the shafts would help, would it be possible to just have a new groove for the circlip machined

in to it at the correct length.

Also someone mentioned CBC Bearings to have complete drive shafts to suit our cars with larger

CV's.

Think the cost was around $580 a pair by memory.

I still have the pictures of them sitting beside standard shafts as I saved them for further referance a while back.

the cbc ones have been scrapped for some reason. I detailed my pursuit of them in the 'fords axles are a rip off thread' stickied at the top of this section.

so the problem with the inners and low cars is the fact the axles is pushed to far in?
