After a little bit of internet research on how we can get stronger CV's, I stumbled across an off-road buggy company in USA which referred me to a company named "Albins Offroad Gear". If you check out their website, http://www.albinsgear.com.au/ you will notice they do ALOT of gearbox gear sets suit WRX's etc, as well as CV joints for Porsche's, which ironically are very close setup to our BA's (they use the same size balls)http://www.albinsgear.com.au/pComponents.htmlThey have listed the CV Ball cage, and also the inner CV star, as well as 300m driveshaft’sI purchased the CV Ball cage, as well as the inner CV star, to a total price around the $800 dollar markFitted them last weekend, although it looked rather simple in turn, it was quite a job to do... What I didn’t realise is the CV rubber boot does not go to the full diameter size of the CV, but rather was half the size, and then had a metal tin type shield which goes to the complete diameter of the CV, which needs to be pried off with a suitable tool. But, any workshop that is familiar with rebuilding CV's would have no problem doing them... Oh and make sure you use the correct CV grease (type LMM I believe).Give them a call, and speak to Haden.Technical specs as provided by Haden are.The cages are made from 4140 then through hardened and shot peenedThe CV inners are made from EN36A then case hardened to 0.45” case depth, sub zeroed and shot peened.Strength wise something like 30% to 40% stronger than stock would be fairly conservative. Guest Guests Posted 02/11/08 07:36 AM Share Posted 02/11/08 07:36 AM THe cv is the weakest link in the IRS rear, following that the axel becomes the next item in the list. I wouldn't consider doing cv's without putting strengthened axels in aswell.

Guest EGOXRT Guests Posted 02/11/08 07:58 AM Share Posted 02/11/08 07:58 AM What about the outers, aren't you just moving the stress down to them now, or did Albins tell you something more?

Guest EGOXRT Guests Posted 02/11/08 08:11 AM Share Posted 02/11/08 08:11 AM Probably because the inner is a pissy little thing. I will be interesting to see what happens to the inner housing now, also I would had to smash or shear the spline off an outer at high speed.A good test will be a manual car hey? I suppose it all comes down to the dollar and the abuse dished out. I am sure you will give them a decent work out though and time will tell.Sure it moves the load to the outer joint, but have you heard of one breaking? To my understanding the outer joint is not a cv as such as it doesn't need to move in and out, so its a different design to the inner cv, and likely strongerThe outer is still a cv, just not plunging.
